Class AB Mono Amplifier Board LME49720 LM3886 40W 8 Ohm
Neurochrome's Class AB Modulus-186 mono amplifier is the most compact model in the Modulus line, designed, manufactured and assembled in Canada. Thanks to the Neurochrome Modulus error correction circuit topology, the Modulus-186 is capable of delivering no less than 65W at 4Ω (40W at 8Ω) at an extremely low distortion level for an incredibly accurate dynamic sound reproduction. This circuit is based on a LME49720 chip for its precision and an LM3886 amplifier for its power.
The Modulus-186's correction circuit has its own regulated power supply, providing a clean, ripple-free electrical signal. It also allows power supply-induced errors in the amplification to be corrected. Thus, the Modulus-186 is indifferent to the type of power supply used and will work equally well with a regulated or unregulated switched-mode power supply.
On the connection side, the Modulus-186 offers a balanced XLR-type input on a 3-pin connector for greater precision in sound reproduction and a better reduction of possible buzzing.
Neurochrome recommends the use of a ±30V power supply with a minimum of 5A (RMS). For a traditional unregulated power supply, the brand recommends a power supply with a 2x22V AC 80-100VA transformer.
The Modulus-186 is a Class AB amplifier and therefore generates heat. It is therefore necessary to combine it with a heat sink. Neurochrome recommends the use of a heatsink with a thermal resistance of 1.35K/W or less. This recommendation is based on an ambient temperature of 25°C and a heatsink temperature of maximum 60°C.
