Balanced Class AB Mono Amplifier Board LME49724 6x LM3886 240W 8 Ohm
Neurochrome's Class AB Modulus-686 mono amplifier is the most powerful model in the Modulus line, designed, manufactured and assembled in Canada. Thanks to the balanced architecture of the Neurochrome Modulus error correction circuitry and the use of six LM3886 chips, the Modulus-686 is capable of delivering no less than 400W at 8Ω (240W at 8Ω) at an extremely low distortion level for incredibly accurate dynamic sound reproduction. This circuit is based on one LME49724 chip for its precision and six LM3886 amplifiers for their power.
The correction circuit of the Modulus-686 has its own regulated power supply, providing a clean, ripple-free electrical signal. It also allows power supply-induced errors in the amplification to be corrected. Thus, the Modulus-686 is independent of the type of power supply used and will work equally well with a regulated or unregulated switched-mode power supply.
On the connection side, the Modulus-686 offers a balanced XLR-type input on a 3-pin connector for greater precision in sound reproduction and a better reduction of possible buzzing..
Neurochrome recommends the use of a ±36V power supply with a minimum of 10A (RMS). For a traditional unregulated power supply, the brand recommends a power supply with a 2x24VAC or 2x25VAC 350-500VA transformer.
The Modulus-186 is a Class AB amplifier and therefore generates heat. It is therefore necessary to combine it with a heat sink. Neurochrome recommends the use of a heatsink with a thermal resistance of 0.25K/W or less for a ±36V power supply, and a heatsink with a thermal resistance of 0.39K/W or less for a ±28V power supply. This recommendation is based on an ambient temperature of 25°C and a heatsink temperature of maximum 60°C.
