ARMATURE HECATE LT DIY

USB Interface SPDIF XMOS Xcore 208 Asynchronous TCXO - OTG

Armature Hecate LT DIY

A new version at a contained price

Armature now offers its excellent USB SPDIF XMOS interface in a simplified version, but always very powerful, allowing to propose it at a contained price. An excellent digital interface with a very good quality / price ratio!

A Hecate to assemble yourself

Want to mount your own USB interface, combine it with other components or integrate it in a different housing? This becomes possible with this DIY version of our Hecate LT. This one is delivered with a 2x10pins barrette in order to also benefit from an i2S output (to weld).

Xmos Xcore U208

XMOS Xcore U208

This latest generation XMOS Xcore U208 processor has 4 times the computing power of the old XMOS U8. The result: a higher definition combined with a very low jitter.

XMOS chips are a reference in USB interface and are now widely recognized in the audiophile world.

A design as neat as ever

At Armature a simplified version is not necessarily an entry-level version. Thus, the design of this interface remains as optimized and the realization extremely careful.

The power supply part is based on low noise, fast response LDO controllers. The board is powered by 2 independent LDOs and the clock part uses an ultra-low noise regulator, this design provides a solid foundation for ultimate performance.

The PCB is built on 4 layers allowing a separation of the ground planes of the power supply part and the signal part. Particular attention has been paid to the design of the high frequency tracks, particularly concerning the clock signal, to avoid any interference.

The Hecate LT also incorporates an ultra-low phase noise TCXO clock from Japan KDS. Its accuracy is 2PPM and jitter less than 0.5PS. Excellent performance can be expected from this interface for high fidelity playback. The Jitter of the final map was measured at 4.6ps

Amazing value USB /SPDIF interface for DAC
Me and my friend bought this module when catching a promo. Until that moment I was using GUSTARD U12 32Bit / 384KHz USB XMOS DSD. I just build a small thick walled (4mm) alu chassis for this module, and served the power supply voltage separated from the USB cable, by using an audiophonics usb separator cable, and an external no-fancy well made smps wall power supply. The module need some serious burn in , be aware. Once this settled, the sound quality is top notch.
First of all, what pleased me was the resolution, control and the depth of the lowest register! Also, the dynamics rendering is superb. Soundstage is very correctly rendered, with no exaggeration, you could detect easily instruments locations (separation of sound sources is good), with a very good sense of depth. The timbres of acoustic instruments are reproduced faithfully, a must in classical music auditions. The attack on aggressive well mastered tracks (percussion instruments, or plucked classical instruments) is as should be. Human voices sound natural, without being harsh or on the analytical side. Also, large scale recordings ( big classical orchestras) are a joy to listen.
Just a brief example: the first track on Erato CD 'Joyce DiDonato - 2014 - Stella di Napoli' it's enough to check for making an idea on how Hecate LT knows how to shine. This Hecate LT thrashed away the good old Gustrad, which was a good companion.
Be aware, this Hecate LT works very well on I2S, as me and my friend tested it with top DAC, if wanted to implement inside the DAC chassis.
If wanted just for the SPDIF use, buy the finished in chassis version, it worth the difference :)
For Daphile/ Roon users: Hecate LT works like a charm on Linux based audio players without drivers.
Highly recommended!!!

Great product.
I am a tube amplifier builder. But now I build a tube DAC. This product very very good for USB connection. The ARMATURE HECATE XCORE 208 is better but in the middle frekvencies the LT better.

Quality Construction
Used this board to replace a DDDAC 1543 mkII failed PCM2707 USB-I2S board.

I connected it via I2S
(Hecate-DDDAC)
GND-GND, BCLK-BCK, LRCLK-FS DATA-DATA

As long as I select 44.11kHz output from the PC, my DDDAC 1543mkII sings nicely :)
