Review: Furutech La Source 103 Headshell Leads
The Furutech La Source 103 headshell leads certainly make a strong first impression. They arrive in a beautifully presented box that immediately conveys the premium positioning of the product. The packaging is elegant and refined, exactly what one would expect from a high-end accessory carrying the Furutech name.

That said, nobody buys headshell leads for the box, and ultimately the value of a product should be judged by its design, usability, and performance.

The leads themselves are attractively made and fitted with high-quality connectors. The contacts feel solid, grip securely, and inspire confidence during installation. Compared to many cheaper alternatives, they give the impression of being built to last.

However, one issue quickly becomes apparent: the cables are quite stiff. While the robust construction may contribute to durability, it can make installation challenging on many headshells and cartridges. In tighter layouts, the wires can be difficult to position neatly and may remain under slight mechanical tension after mounting, which is not ideal.

Another disappointment is the lack of technical specifications. Furutech does not appear to provide the connector diameters for either the cartridge or headshell side. Based on my own measurements, both ends seem to be approximately 1.2 mm, but this is only an estimate. For users who want to verify compatibility before purchase, more detailed specifications would have been welcome.

As for sound quality, I did not hear any dramatic improvement over other well-made headshell leads. Any differences were subtle and difficult to separate from normal system variability. While they certainly do not degrade performance, it is hard to conclude that they offer a clear sonic advantage that fully justifies their premium price.

Verdict

The Furutech La Source 103 is a beautifully finished premium product with excellent connectors and a luxury presentation. However, the very stiff wiring and the lack of detailed technical specifications detract from the overall experience. While there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the product, I am not convinced that its performance fully justifies the asking price when compared with several less expensive alternatives.

A well-made and visually impressive set of headshell leads, but one whose premium price is harder to justify once the novelty of the packaging wears off.
