I bought the famous UMIK-2, an excellent product recently. Bought a laptop for measurements too (Dell Latitude) so I thought I can finally start my serious DIY loudspeaker building journey.
Well, this UMIK-2 gave me connection errors in REW: sometimes the mic was ready, sometimes it just disappeared from the system completely (not only in REW).
I checked USB power options, didn't help. Checked with another laptop, didn't help. Checked with a desktop PC, didn't help.
Then I tried a different USB-C cable, borrowed from my Raspberry Pi4, a thick, quality USB-C cable from Varta. And voilá, it works like a charm.
The factory supplied USB-C cable is still good for my phone interestingly, charging works, data works. But the UMIK-2's USB-C input connector and the factory supplied USB-C cable don't like eachother... - a unique feature of the cable (or the UMIK-2).
So I STRONGLY recommend anyone who buys a UMIK-2 to separately buy a very good quality USB-C cable for the mic else he can have issues with the factory supplied cable's connector (I assume the cable's connector is cheap and not so good, not the UMIK UBS-C input).
Anyway, having tested the UMIK-2 with a quality cable, no connection and plug-unplug issues anymore, the mic is working like a charm and it's a real joy to finally use it as intended.
A note to MiniDSP: check your supplied usb-c cable's connectors, next time I'm willing to pay $1 more (lol) for a stable, working cable.
I was afraid I would need to RMA this mic to Audiophonics in the upcoming days but it seems the cable's connector doesn't fit very well into the UMIK's USB connector but since the UMIK is working fine with a better, more robust cable, I assume this is a cable issue and the UMIK is fine. :)
