The transparent plastic on the rectangular conductors is not so difficult to remove, when you scrap it open with a knife on the “short” side of the rectangular. It then opens up and you can pull it off. Be carefull not to cut through the copper foil when stripping the cable.
Much more difficult is the incorporation of the foil shield to ground. To my logical sense it has to be connected to the braided shield on both sides, it has to be grounded otherwise it isn’t doing anything besides trying to become a capacitor, but I cannot find that confirmed anywhere. So only 3 stars because of this. The foil is isolated from the braided copper in this cable, which is quite unusual. The foil easily breaks and then you have to start stripping the cable again.
Since I go from unbalanced to balanced signal, I put a small resistor of 100 Ohms in parallel with a tiny capacitor of 100 nF in a special XLR plug (the Neutrik doesn’t allow 10 mm wire) on the receiving balanced end, between the braid+foil and ground (pin 1). On the unbalanced side the blue wire will be connected directly to the braided copper and the foil copper.
