I’m planning to assemble a DIY with of the shell components/board on this site, but I was struggling what to do with the USB-input. I have used a Audiophonics DAC AK4495SEQ for a year now. Amazing value for money, but the DAC has its limitations. Most noticeable is the digital glare/blur in the high register. On Back Friday I was searching for options on this site and came across this U208 interface and ordered it. It was neatly delivered to to me in the Netherlands a couple of days later. The box has an all black finish instead of silver/black, but you won’t hear me complain about that.
I tested this U208 interface in combination with the DAC I mentioned above using an Audiophonics coax cable and an Audiophonics USB-cable. Well that was interesting. The U208 just lifted this DAC to a whole new level. With this interface the DAC became far more natural, detailed, involving, lively …. and … well ... just a lot more fun to listen too. It just shows that good USB-conversion is difficult and doing it in a separate box with more room for good components and a separate power supply is very rewarding.
