Volume Controller / Source Selector
The device is very well assembled and the feeling of quality is high. Also the aluminium box with the front panel of polished black aluminium held in place by allen screws has a very professional look. Volume potentiometer rotates very smoothly with absolutely no noise being introduced in the audio signal and the source selector has very precise rotation marks so the overall feeling is the one of a very good quality product. The balance between Left and Right stereo channels of the audio volume at very low levels is good as well confirming the quality of the logarithmic potentiometer by ALPS. Since this is a passive preamp we cannot speak about "sound quality", however I can say there is no noise or hum being picked up by using this unit even if RF devices are placed in its vicinity so its shielding is very good and the internal wiring must have been properly routed. The only real drawback of the unit is its price that, unfortunately, is not cheap, especially considering that there are no active components inside it and consindering that its form factor is not the typical "big" one with a box 43cm wide. However, if you need a passive preamp built with very good components and you don't mind about the size of the box (or maybe you even want it to be the smallest possible) I would certainly consider this small passive preamp.
