Module Amplificateur Mono Class AB LME49720 2x LM3886 65W 8Ω
The Neurochrome Modulus-286 Class AB mono amplifier is the intermediate model of the Modulus line, designed, manufactured and assembled in Canada. It is ideal for audiophiles requiring more than 100W of power at 4Ω. Thanks to the topology of the Neurochrome Modulus error correction circuitry and the use of two LM3886 chips in parallel, the Modulus-286 is indeed capable of delivering no less than 125W at 4Ω (65W at 8Ω) at an extremely low distortion level for an incredibly accurate dynamic sound reproduction. This circuit is based on a LME49720 chip for its precision and two LM3886 amplifiers for their power.
The Modulus-286's correction circuit has its own regulated power supply, providing a clean, ripple-free electrical signal. It also allows power supply-induced errors in the amplification to be corrected. Thus, the Modulus-186 is indifferent to the type of power supply used and will work equally well with a regulated or unregulated switched-mode power supply.
On the connection side, the Modulus-286 offers a balanced XLR-type input on a 3-pin connector for greater precision in sound reproduction and a better reduction of possible buzzing.
Neurochrome recommends the use of a ±33V power supply with a minimum of 6.5A (RMS). For a traditional unregulated power supply, the brand recommends a power supply with a 2x25V AC 100VA transformer.
The Modulus-286 is a Class AB amplifier and therefore generates heat. It is therefore necessary to combine it with a heat sink. Neurochrome recommends the use of a heatsink with a thermal resistance of 0.88K/W or less. This recommendation is based on an ambient temperature of 25°C and a heatsink temperature of maximum 60°C.
