The Benchmark AHB2 power amplifier is a powerful class AH/B amplifier capable of delivering up to 2x 190W at 4 Ohm, and up to 1x 380W at 8 Ohm when bridged in mono. What makes the Benchmark AHB2 so special is its high efficiency and very low distortion and noise levels. In fact, it uses THX AAA (Achromatic Audio Amplifier) technology with forward error correction and a low-noise power supply stage.
The power supply stage features an SMPS switching power supply with 90% efficiency. In terms of measurements, we find an SNR and an exceptional dynamic range of 132dB (A-weighted) in stereo mode, and a THD+N of less than -118dB (<0.00013%). In terms of connectivity, it features a balanced stereo XLR input, speaker terminals and speakON connectors, as well as two 3.5mm jack trigger 12V connectors. The rear panel also features a gain control switch and a switch for selecting mono or stereo use. All in all, this amplifier, capable of exploiting the full potential of high-resolution audio streams, will let you enjoy every nuance and sonic detail of your favorite tracks.
The AHB2's amplifier stage uses THX's patented AAA™ technology, which enables the cancellation of zero-crossing errors. The AHB2 amplifier then surpasses the performance of any class A amplifier with ultra-low noise and distortion and energy efficiency that rivals that of a class D amplifier. This is complemented by a direct-acting error correction system that allows class AB and class H topologies to be combined.
The AHB2 easily handles difficult phase angles and low impedances. This allows you to couple the AHB2 to any active loudspeaker and drive them serenely without producing measurable distortion. The high damping factor enhances bass for an immersive experience while maintaining a flat frequency response.
Traditional Class A/B amplifiers generate cross-distortion when the push-pull output stage exceeds 0 volts. Class A amplifiers have solved this problem by sacrificing their efficiency, meaning they consume a lot of energy for too little power retransmitted to the loudspeakers. The AHB2 amplifier solves this problem without sacrificing efficiency.
The AHB2 power amplifier uses an actively regulated SMPS switching power supply. As a result, the AHB2's maximum output power does not vary according to mains voltage or audio load. This power supply switches beyond audible frequencies to eliminate mechanical noise and interference. As a result, this amplifier benefits from an extremely clean and quiet power supply, with an efficiency rate of over 90%. This efficiency allows it to use passive radiators without the need for a fan.
Thanks to its low-gain design, the AHB2's maximum output is reached only when the balanced inputs reach a level of +22dBu. This greatly improves the AHB2's SNR, making it 20dB to 30dB quieter than most power amplifiers on the market. A gain switch on the rear panel will still allow you to set the AHB2 to higher gain values if required.
In addition to the standard connectors found on all power amplifiers, the AHB2 features speakON connectors with rotary locking for high-fidelity connection.

"Using standard binding posts reduces performance just a bit but certainly nothing to worry about. What we have is still state of the art and one of best ever consumer stereo amplifiers produced."
