TOPPING D50 III picture

Topping's new D50 III desktop DAC has been updated to deliver even better performance than its predecessors. It now features two ES9039Q2M DAC chips and an XMOS XU-316 USB interface, enabling it to support high-resolution streams up to PCM 32bit 768kHz and DSD512. It also features a latest-generation Qualcomm QCC5125 Bluetooth chip for superior wireless reception. It supports Bluetooth aptX, aptX Adaptative, aptX HD and LDAC codecs. Topping chose to offer the possibility of operating it as a DAC/preamplifier with volume control, coupled with active speakers or a power amplifier. The DAC D50 III's connectivity interface features numerous digital inputs: SPDIF Coaxial, Toslin Optical and USB-C. Outputs include a balanced 6.35mm TRS jack and an RCA output. Last but not least, an attractive display, Bluetooth remote control and 10-band equalization software enhance the user experience.

Topping D50 III: two ES9039Q2M DAC chips and XMOS XU316 USB interface

The D50 III features one ES9039Q2M digital-to-analog converter chip per channel for balanced signal processing. These two DAC chips, combined with the XMOS XU316 USB interface, enable Topping's D50 III to support high-resolution streams up to PCM 32bit 768kHz and DSD512. The USB XMOS XU 316 interface is accompanied by a Thesycon driver for plug-and-play operation and a high level of compatibility. The I/V conversion stage has also been enhanced to maximize the performance of the ES9039Q3M DAC chips. Compared with the D50 S, the D50 III's chipset achieves better SNR, dynamic range and distortion.

Topping D50 III: Bluetooth 5.1

A QCC5125 Bluetooth receiver chip enables the D50 III DAC to support the high-resolution codecs SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX Adaptative, aptX HD and LDAC. As a result, you can enjoy high-quality wireless transmission at up to 24bit 96kHz, a higher resolution than the CD standard.

Topping D50 III: preamplifier mode and high output power

The D50 III's output level is adjustable. It features a 4Vrms level on its balanced output and 2Vrms on its RCA output, which can be increased to 5Vrms on its 6.35mm TRS output and 2.5Vrms on its RCA output. In addition, a preamplifier mode lets you use the D50 III DAC with active speakers or a desktop amplifier.

Topping D50 III: USB-C interface

The Topping D50 III's USB-C interface has two ports. A transmission port and a power port. It is recommended to use the additional power port when the D50 III is connected to a laptop or phone.

Topping D50 III: Bluetooth remote control and 12V trigger

A Bluetooth-enabled remote control is supplied with the D50 III. This allows the device to be controlled remotely for greater ease of use. There's also a 12V trigger on a 3.5mm jack, enabling you to switch several devices on or off simultaneously. This function is very practical if you use the D50 III in combination with the brand's A50 III headphone amplifier, for example.

Topping D50 III: 10-band equalizer

Topping has developed a 10-band equalizer offering the possibility of adjusting numerous settings. The software supports the import of target curves and the saving of multiple profiles for quick changes.

The PEQ function supports up to 32bit 192kHz and is only available via the USB-C port.

Very good DAC , BUT .....!
The USB A to C cable that comes with it is only good for powering the davice , not for data transfer . If used for data , Windows 10 will not recognize the device ! Use another USB cable for both data and power and then it will work . Also , the default setting for the output terminals is TRS , not RCA . If you use RCA cables to connect to your amplifier , change this setting . This information is not provided in the manual and I think that is a big shortcoming . It took me quite some time and pain to figure this all out . Sound is perfect (once you get it running...)

Parfait
Acheté pour alimenter un ampli casque Lake People. Il remplit parfaitement son rôle, le son est neutre, transparent et plein d'énergie. La fonction EQ est idéal pour égaliser un casque.
En points négatifs : alimentation non fournie et l'application pour le paramétrage de l'égaliseur n'est disponible que sur PC.

Has DAC mode and pre-mode
Great DAC (look at audioscience review of it).

Has a DAC mode (to ensure max volume if you have a source managing audio level). Which is what I needed.
