DAYTON AUDIO MA1280 Multiroom Amplifier 12 Channel

The Dayton Audio MA1280 is a 12-channel Class D amplifier designed for audio distribution across multiple independent zones. It delivers 80W RMS per channel into 8Ω and 160W into 4Ω, utilising a modular architecture comprising six stereo zones.

Designed for both multi-room systems and home cinema setups, it combines flexible source routing with independent zone management, allowing the sound output to be precisely tailored to each room.

The amplifier features 12 channels delivering 80W RMS under 8Ω and 160W under 4Ω, enabling multiple zones to be powered simultaneously with a comfortable power reserve. This configuration also allows two channels to be bridged, increasing the power to 160W RMS at 8Ω, enabling the amplification to be adapted as required for more demanding speakers or main zones.

In addition to this flexibility, the use of a Class D topology optimises energy efficiency, resulting in minimal heat dissipation and stable operation during prolonged use, particularly in multi-room environments where multiple channels are in constant use.

Dayton Audio MA1280: Independent multi-zone organisation

The amplifier is organised into six independent stereo zones, each associated with a dedicated line input, allowing a specific source to be assigned to each zone according to playback requirements. This structure is complemented by two stereo BUS inputs shared by all channels, which allows the same source to be distributed across multiple zones whilst retaining the option for local differentiation. The zone-specific source selector switches between the local input and the BUS, thus allowing the routing to be adapted without the need for an external matrix, in line with a direct and scalable cabling approach.

This approach is further enhanced by individual gain control per zone, allowing the output level to be precisely adjusted to suit the speakers or the acoustics of each room, thereby ensuring overall listening consistency. At the same time, the pass-through line outputs allow multiple amplifiers to be daisy-chained, naturally extending the system to larger-scale multi-room setups whilst maintaining the integrity of the distributed signal.
