After a few weeks using this DAC as a source I find it neutral and highly resolving with impressive dynamics. It does not inject harmonic richness but neither does it sound cold and sterile like som older high tech DACs. With warm and rich music files it reproduces that very well. The high midrange and treble are smooth and natural, and even with suboptimal recordings this range is not "irritating" (even though it reveales the flaws). Bass is deep tight and punchy. It does not exaggerate söundstage like some R2R DACs but when the recorded soundstage is large it preserves that combined with pinpoint imaging.
I suggest pairing it with a reference class preamplifier to preserve dynamics, ease/flow and compatibility with all poweramps.
I find it a small but clear step up compared to my RME DAC2fs.
