Switches and buttons are divided into 2 categories:
- Monostable switch (pushbutton or fugitive button): Returns immediately to its initial position when pressed. It has only one possible position.
- Bistable switch: When pressed, the switch is engaged and changes position. Several positions are therefore possible, unlike a monostable switch.
