FiiO EA13 Class A Integrated Tube Amplifier 2x18W 8 Ohm Black
The FiiO EA13 is a Class A tube integrated amplifier designed to drive a pair of speakers in a home hi-fi system. Its push-pull architecture delivers 18W + 18W into 8Ω and relies on six tubes, two Sylvania NOS PCF80 for preamplification and four JJ Electronic EL34 for amplification, combining power reserve with tube operation.
Intended for bookshelf speakers as well as some floorstanding speakers, it combines amplification, analog volume control and mechanical VU meters in a single unit. Its dedicated output transformer and its chassis designed to limit vibrations and interference support its integration at the heart of a stereo system.
FiiO EA13: Integrated tube amplifier
The FiiO EA13 combines tube amplification with an integrated design intended to drive a home stereo system. Its Class A push-pull architecture delivers 18W + 18W into 8Ω, a power level suited to many bookshelf speakers as well as some floorstanding speakers. The six imported tubes are part of this design: two Sylvania NOS PCF80 handle preamplification, while four JJ Electronic EL34 handle power amplification.
FiiO EA13: A carefully designed tube architecture
The circuit relies on components selected to support the signal path and the amplifier's power supply. The axial metal film coupling capacitors are designed to limit losses and distortion, while the high-capacity NCC electrolytic filter capacitors help provide a stable power supply. This layout allows the tube stages to operate in a controlled electrical environment, at the core of an amplification designed to reproduce nuances as well as dynamic variations.
FiiO EA13: Output transformer and operating stability
The custom-designed output transformer, built from silicon steel laminations, is a central element of the architecture. Its internal impregnation with epoxy resin and fine sand, followed by sealing in a robust enclosure, aims to limit transformer vibrations and strengthen its electromagnetic shielding. This construction also helps protect it against moisture and contributes to the stability of the whole unit, handling delicate passages as well as higher listening levels.
FiiO EA13: Volume control and mechanical VU meters
The volume level is adjusted with an analog potentiometer, which allows gradual volume variation. On the front panel, two mechanical VU meters with warm backlighting react to the music and display channel activity, in a classic style consistent with tube amplification.
FiiO EA13: An aluminum chassis
The CNC-machined aluminum front panel, thickened and then sandblasted, gives the unit a rigid front and a refined tactile finish. The one-piece chassis contributes to the sturdiness of the unit and to electromagnetic shielding, while the tubes are recessed under a protective cover. Side ventilation facilitates airflow around the components and the damping feet limit the transmission of vibrations, factors to consider when installing it in a hi-fi system.
