The measurement microphone EARS is the equivalent of the popular Umik-1 for headphones and in-ear systems. It uses the same technological trunk and shares its excellent performance. It allows to measure the frequency response finesse of your headphones / internal monitors.

Measurements by EARS are an ideal working basis for making the best choices in the configuration of a headphone equalizer. This will  allow the user to correct any material imperfections and limitations of all types of headphones (from the simplest to the highest sensitivity) leading to a significative listening improvement.

This measurement tool is particularly useful for maintaining your headphones / in-ear. It allows to precisely check the balance of the stereo channels, the behavior of the frequency response of each channel. It will thus give basic information to verify that a headset is still working as expected.

A precise measurement of headset performance

Helmet mounted EARS

With a very smooth frequency response throughout the audible spectrum (20Hz - 20kHz), EARS can provide accurate measurements with ease. Simply connect it to a computer/laptop via a USB cable, then run a test through one of the many free software available such as free Room EQ Wizard (REW) software.

Data from the measurement is not limited to describing the operation of the helmet. It can also say a lot about the behavior of the entire chain, from the source to the headphone amplifier. Ears enables the user to set a digital correction not only on the headphones, but on the entire chain driving the headset.

Like a real ear

Because the behavior of internal devices and headphones is difficult to anticipate, only a measure that approaches the real ear conditions can provide relevant data.
For this reason, EARS reproduces exactly the shape of the human ear so that its microphones capture all the subtlety of this very particular acoustic environment.
This form also keeps in place the IEM (internat ear monitor) as would a real ear, with all the implications that this may have on the way the sound spread.

To further optimize the rendering of in-ear systems, EARS is also a great way to measure the impact of acoustic foams used on your headphones. Data will shed light on any attenuation strong enough to alter the sound quality, which can then be corrected by opting for different and more neutral foams or by setting an additionnal equalizer.

When not in use on your headsets, EARS does not cease to be a microphone. In this case, it remains a high-sensitivity microphone pair oriented at 180 °, these features also make it a very good ambiance recorder that will give the chest and depth to all sorts video-conferences, project of sound / outgoing stream capture.

getting a better feeling for headphones
hi audiophonics. thanks for the best price of minidspEars in europe. the ears work great. if helps me to get a better feeling of what headphones are really producing at their outputs. together with REW they are a great tool. comparing my measurements to the russian website https://reference-audio-analyzer.pro/en/report/hp/denon-d2000.php also showed that the measurement is really quite reliable.

ps: as usual in measuring audio equipment - measure to get information but trust your ears :-)
