DAYTON AUDIO DMA105-PR Aluminium Passive Radiator 37.9Hz Ø10.2cm

DAYTON AUDIO DMA105-PR Aluminium Passive Radiator 37.9Hz Ø10.2cm
The DMA105-PR of Dayton Audio is a passive radiator of 10.2cm in diameter. This is an excellent solution for a bass boost in smaller speakers. This small passive radiator has everything you would expect from larger models, including an adjustable mass, an Aluminium cone and a rubber surround.

Dayton Audio DMA105-PR

Aluminium Passive Radiator 37.9Hz Ø10.2cm

Dayton Audio DMA105-PR Radiateur Passif Aluminium 37.9Hz Ø10.2cm

The DMA105-PR of Dayton Audio is a passive radiator of 10.2cm in diameter. This is an excellent solution for a bass boost in smaller speakers. This small passive radiator has everything you would expect from larger models, including an adjustable mass, an Aluminium cone and a rubber surround. Visually identical to the Dayton Audio DMA range of wideband speakers, this DMA105-PR can also be used with any other small speaker that requires reinforcement in low frequencies. The included threaded rod and butterfly nut at the rear of the diaphragm make it easy to add mass to adjust the passive radiator to your project.

Dayton Audio DMA105-PR Radiateur Passif Aluminium 37.9Hz Ø10.2cm

In general, a passive radiator must have at least twice the air displacement (Vd) of the system's active loudspeaker/subwoofer. To calculate the air displacement: Vd = Sd x Xmax

Operation of a passive radiator

The passive radiator (or passive loudspeaker) is integrated into a box with an active loudspeaker. This passive radiator, while at first glance it may look like a "classic" loudspeaker, does not actually have any engine parts. Thus, there will be no coil, magnet or power supply in its design. Similarly, it will not be electrically connected to a power amplifier.

To diffuse sound, the passive radiator will use the air pressures and depressions induced by the active loudspeaker in the body to vibrate its membrane and produce a sound, thus providing deep bass. Its resonance frequency is determined by its mass and the air contained in the enclosure. It will therefore be possible to vary its resonance frequency on many models and tune it to the speaker by adding mass.

A bit expensive for what it does.

The specifications seem to match the passive radiator with one weight and the mounting screw added, not without any weights added as the manufacturer claims.

I did no professional measurements, though, just testing with a cheap calibration mic and comparing the results with winsd projections for the box size and driver.
