FiiO FT13: Stunning Purpleheart wood shells

Following the success of the FT1 headphones, FiiO sought out a new type of wood in order to offer an improved version of the original model. The brand turned to Purpleheart wood, an exotic species native to South America. This wood is not only exceptionally sturdy, but also has a unique color. Over time, this wood, which is initially light brown, transforms into a beautiful purple.

This type of wood has been used for many instruments since the 1920s. Once it arrives at the headphone production site, the wood is stabilized, then aged in a dark room for several months to achieve its final color. It is then carefully selected, carved, polished, and lacquered.

FiiO FT13: Large 60mm dynamic speaker

The FT13, like the FT1 before it, features a large 60mm diameter dynamic driver. This allows it to handle more power and deliver sound reproduction with less distortion, faster transients, and deeper, more powerful bass.

The FT13 speaker features a new composite diaphragm made from birch. This design allows for precise adjustment of the diaphragm's resistance and rigidity to achieve new sound goals. During the design process, wool fibers are added for flexibility, giving the diaphragm a natural sound and warm sound signature.

This diaphragm features a “W” design inspired by cone speakers. Compared to membranes commonly used in headphones, this design increases the effective vibration surface area by 25.8%. It consists of a rigid dome and a flexible suspension. The rigid dome covers a larger surface area than a conventional diaphragm, and because the coil drives it directly, less energy is lost during vibration transfer, increasing efficiency and reducing distortion.

FiiO FT13: Suede and lambskin pads

Two pairs of earpads are included with the FT13, each offering excellent comfort and durability. The first pair features a breathable, sweat-resistant, and easy-to-clean lambskin leather cover. The second pair features a soft and flexible suede cover. Each earpads is made of memory foam, which molds perfectly to the shape of the ear.

The FT13 also features an adjustable magnesium alloy headband. This sturdy system allows for precise adjustment to fit any head perfectly. The part that comes into contact with the head is covered with durable, breathable lambskin leather. The headphones offer excellent comfort, even during long listening sessions.
