iBasso AMP16 Raytheon JAN6418 Amplifier Module for DAP DX340 Silver
iBasso's AMP16 is an amplifier module specially designed to be used with the brand's DAP DX340, providing tube amplification with an impressive 2000mW+2000mW at 32Ω.
iBasso AMP16 : Raytheon power tubes
The AMP16 uses two Raytheon JAN6418 power tubes, renowned for their compact size, low power consumption and stable operation. Unlike most portable products that use 9V or 12V power supplies, the AMP16 has a 22.5V anode power supply specifically designed for the JAN6418 tubes. This higher voltage provides greater headroom, ensuring that the tubes operate at their full potential. The two JAN6418 tubes give the AMP16 a distinctive analogue sound, with a warm, relaxed and smooth tone that's a pleasure to listen to.
iBasso AMP16 : Class AB mode
In addition to the TUBE output mode, the AMP16 also features a Class AB amplifier circuit, allowing users to switch between these two modes to enjoy two distinct sound profiles. In TUBE mode, the sound is soft and warm, with the characteristic timbre of this technology. Class AB mode, on the other hand, offers a more neutral tone as well as greater resolution and improved dynamics.
iBasso AMP16 : 2x2000mW amplification
Rather than an all-in-one amplifier chip, the AMP16 uses a set of 4 Texas Instruments OPAs and 4 BUF634A buffers alongside its power tubes for a total output power of 2x2000mW into 32Ω, allowing it to efficiently drive all earphones and headphones on the market, including the most power-hungry such as planar magnetic and electrostatic headphones.
iBasso AMP16 : JRC volume control
The AMP16 also incorporates a hardware JRC volume control, allowing the DACs in your iBasso DAP to operate at their maximum output level to give the tubes the most powerful signal possible to amplify. This amplified signal is then lowered, reducing background noise and drastically improving the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).
iBasso AMP16 : PORON suspension
To considerably reduce the impact of the unit's movements on sound reproduction in TUBE mode, iBasso has equipped the AMP16 with a suspension based on PORON material, which effectively absorbs shocks. Tubes protected in this way are much less sensitive to movement and shock, guaranteeing quality reproduction, even when used on the move.
