The Meze Empyrean II is an open-back headphone featuring an isodynamic planar magnetic driver, designed for wide-band reproduction based on a dual-emission-zone architecture. Meze Empyrean II: Isodynamic planar magnetic driver
The Meze Empyrean II features a dual-emission-zone isodynamic planar magnetic driver, which distributes the frequency response across different sections of the diaphragm to minimise phase interactions, thereby stabilising the response across the entire spectrum. This design is underpinned by an optimised magnetic circuit and an extended active surface area, ensuring uniform movement of the diaphragm, thereby reducing distortion whilst preserving dynamic micro-variations.
Meze Empyrean II: Exquisitely crafted sound
The open design facilitates the dissipation of the rear wave, which reduces internal reflections and improves soundstage perception, whilst the internal geometry and positioning of the transducer align the sound with the ear to maintain temporal coherence. This approach is extended through the use of interchangeable pads (Duo / Alcantara), whose structure and porosity modulate the acoustic load: the Duo pads enhance coupling with the ear, thereby increasing the density of the bass range, whilst the Alcantara pads introduce more gradual absorption, allowing for a more airy reproduction and a perceived wider soundstage. This controlled variability allows the sound to be adjusted without altering the overall balance of the driver.
Meze Empyrean II: Remarkably ergonomic
The rigid ABS frame, reinforced with fibreglass, minimises unwanted vibrations, which stabilises the driver’s performance and ensures clear sound reproduction whilst keeping the weight to a minimum. This design is complemented by a self-adjusting suspension system that distributes pressure evenly across the headband, ensuring a truly comfortable listening experience, even during long sessions.
