The Aune S18 EVO is a DAC designed to ensure accurate reproduction of digital audio streams, utilising a dual-chip AK4497 architecture combined with global clock synchronisation. By reducing jitter to levels in the order of femtoseconds, the system ensures a consistent time base for all digital processing. This stabilisation extends throughout the entire internal signal chain, thereby minimising signal interpretation errors during critical conversion stages.
The various digital inputs – whether USB via the XMOS XU316 interface or AES, coaxial and optical streams – are systematically reprocessed prior to conversion, thereby eliminating any irregularities associated with the sources. This processing includes conversion to the IIS format as well as signal isolation, which limits the propagation of electrical interference between stages.
This approach is extended to Bluetooth, whose signal is also resynchronised via a PLL before being transmitted to the DAC, thereby reducing the jitter typically associated with wireless transmissions. Compatibility with high-definition codecs allows this processing logic to be extended to wireless applications, whilst maintaining consistency in sound reproduction between wired and wireless sources.


The S18 EVO utilises a selection of passive components and connectors from specialist manufacturers, ensuring electrical stability across all critical stages. Capacitors, resistors and printed circuit boards are therefore designed to minimise background noise and maintain signal integrity over time.
This rigorous design approach is reflected in measured performance figures of 2.6 µV output noise and a THD+N of -116 dB, indicating low distortion and good resolution of low-amplitude signals. These results confirm the device’s ability to preserve dynamic range and subtle details in real-world listening conditions.
