With the DX5 II, Topping presents the direct heir to its famous DX5 DAC and headphone amplifier. This new version features a host of changes, improving on its predecessor in absolutely every respect. The digital/analog conversion stage is now entrusted to two ES9039Q2M chips in a symmetrical architecture, for support of sampling rates up to PCM 32bit 768kHz and DSD512. As for amplification, the brand's classic NFCA architecture has been drastically evolved to offer four-channel 2x7600mW amplification under 16Ω in a brand-new design called X-Hybrid.
The Topping DX5 II uses two ES9039Q2M DAC chips in a symmetrical architecture, offering outstanding digital-to-analog conversion. It boasts a distortion rate of 0.00006% for an impressive signal-to-noise ratio and dynamic range of 133dB. What's more, the inclusion of an XMOS XU316 USB interface makes the most of the DAC chips used, ensuring signal conversion at sampling rates up to PCM 32bit 768kHz and DSD512.
For its amplification stage, the Topping DX5 II evolves the brand's characteristic NFCA architecture into X-Hybrid technology. This is a three-stage amplification architecture characterized by record efficiency, reducing power consumption while minimizing heat generation. Despite its small chassis, the DX5 II houses four-channel symmetrical amplification.
To ensure compatibility with all headphones and earphones on the market, the Topping DX5 II makes no concessions, featuring single-ended 6.35mm jack, balanced 4.4mm jack and balanced 4-pin XLR headphone outputs. What's more, its 2x7600mW of power coupled with a low noise level of just 1.8µV ensures that even the most power-hungry headphones can be driven with ease, and without the slightest trace of background noise.
With the new DX5 version, Topping has also taken the opportunity to revamp its user interface, introducing the Aurora UI. This new, highly customizable interface allows you to modify its colors at will for optimum readability, and integrates a VU meter and FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) display in addition to the classic playback information, offering a rich visual experience.
To give you maximum control over sound reproduction, Topping has developed a 10-band equalizer for the Topping DX5 II. Once you've defined your target curve using the dedicated software/application, simply import it into your device to enjoy it. It's worth noting that you can save several different sound profiles and switch between them at will, allowing you to adapt sound reproduction to your headphones on the fly.
This software/application is currently being tested by the Topping teams. It will be available and made compatible with the DX5 II shortly via a firmware update. The mobile application is scheduled for release first on Android, then on iOS.
For maximum ease of use, the Topping DX5 II is also equipped with Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. This supports sampling rates up to PCM 24bit 96kHz via the high-quality protocols LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX, aptX HD, AAC and SBC, ensuring high-quality wireless transmission.
Always in the spirit of flexibility of use and comfort, the Topping DX5 II also features a “Preamp” mode, enabling it to be directly connected to a power amplifier or active speakers to control volume. What's more, the Topping DX5 II features an automatic volume save function, allowing it to automatically adjust itself according to your last use when you select another output mode, for a simplified user experience.
Last but not least, the Topping DX5 II also features a 12V trigger input and output, enabling it to synchronize its power-up with the rest of your HiFi installation, for seamless integration of all your devices.
