I had been planning to buy a DAC with R2R technology for some time. I fell in love with it when I listened to a Holo Audio model during a listening test. Reading reviews of various models, I was impressed by the Denafrips models, particularly the latest Pontus 15th model.
Although it is quite expensive, it is characterized by meticulous attention to detail in the construction of the motherboard and the R2R component (there are many explanatory photos online). Not to mention the double toroidal transformer and separate lines for analog and digital with pure silver connections. Everything is top-notch and comparable to products that cost twice or even three times as much.
Listening to it largely satisfied all expectations: clear, almost crystalline vocals, a wide soundstage, perfect separation of instruments, and powerful but never annoying bass, controlled like the high frequencies. A real gem that will delight any headphone enthusiast, like me.
I added it to my system consisting of a Holo Audio Red (connected to the Denafrips with an Audioquest HDMI cable), a Rose RS250 (also connected via Audioquest USB), a Primare i35 amplifier (connected to the Denafrips via a balanced Audioquest cable), a Lehmann Audio Linear headphone amplifier, and B&W 704 series speakers. Everything works wonderfully.
A purchase that I would highly recommend.
