The Topping Pre900 is a fully balanced analog preamplifier designed to provide volume control and source management within a high-fidelity audio system. It features a four-channel differential architecture combined with independent power supplies for the digital and analog circuits, achieving -150dB crosstalk and a signal-to-noise ratio of 151dB, while maintaining distortion below 0.00003% to preserve signal integrity across the entire dynamic range.
Designed for demanding symmetrical systems, it combines volume control via a network of switched resistors with a high output amplitude of 69Vpp and professional-grade connectivity, allowing for precise level adjustment without compromising channel consistency. This approach allows it to serve as the central component of a complete system, particularly when paired with the Topping D900 and A900 (sold separately), while maintaining stable, clear, and consistent audio signal transmission.
The Topping Pre900 is based on a fully differential four-channel architecture, ensuring symmetrical signal processing from input to output, while the physical isolation of the left and right channels achieves a crosstalk level of -150dB, reducing interactions and stabilizing the stereo image. This design is further enhanced by a complete separation of the analog and digital power supplies, limiting the propagation of interference at the source and maintaining a noise floor below 0.3µVrms.
This simultaneous control of noise and crosstalk allows the preamplifier to deliver a clean signal right from the start of the amplification process, thereby providing a stable foundation for the subsequent stages.

The Pre900 combines extremely low distortion (THD < 0.00003%) with a signal-to-noise ratio of 151dB, which minimizes the occurrence of artifacts while maintaining a wide dynamic range. This approach is further enhanced by an output amplitude of up to 69 Vpp with a gain of up to 19.9dB, while the extended bandwidth of up to 100kHz prevents any high-frequency roll-off and ensures the transmission of fast signals.
This high dynamic range, combined with controlled residual noise, preserves both subtle details and dynamic range, ensuring faithful reproduction even with high-amplitude content.
The Pre900 features volume control based on a network of relay-switched resistors, allowing for adjustment in over 1000 steps with 0.1dB precision, ensuring fine-tuning of the level without signal distortion. This architecture maintains crosstalk below -150dB across the entire adjustment range, ensuring perfect consistency between channels even at low volumes.
The inclusion of three gain levels allows the preamplifier's performance to be tailored to the downstream amplification, optimizing the usable adjustment range while preventing clipping and loss of resolution in real-world use.

The Pre900 is designed around three balanced XLR/6.35mm TRS combo inputs paired with a single XLR output, utilizing Neutrik connectors to ensure a stable connection, while maintaining a direct signal path without intermediate conversion preserves the integrity of the audio signal. This architecture fits into a fully balanced signal chain, particularly with the D900 and A900, with which it is compatible.
This technical approach is complemented by a user interface featuring a 2-inch color display and the Aurora environment, providing direct access to level information (level meter, FFT) and settings, while touch controls, a multifunction button, and a remote control ensure smooth operation. The integration of a secure volume mode and a 12V trigger (input/output) ensures consistent and controlled operation within a complete system.
