MOONDROP CHU III Dynamic In-Ear Monitors IEM 118dB 16 Ohm 12Hz-50kHz Silver
The MOONDROP CHU III is a pair of in-ear monitors (IEMs) equipped with a high-performance 10mm dynamic driver, designed to deliver precise audio reproduction across a wide bandwidth. Its aluminum-magnesium alloy composite diaphragm is integrated into a zinc alloy cavity, combining rigidity and compactness. With a high sensitivity of 118 dB/Vrms at 1kHz, an impedance of 16Ω ±15% and a frequency response of 12Hz to 50kHz, the CHU III can be easily paired with various audio sources. Its detachable cable uses a 0.78mm 2-Pin CIEM connection, while its 3.5mm stereo unbalanced jack termination ensures broad compatibility with devices equipped with a headphone output. With a total harmonic distortion of ≤0.1% at 1kHz for 94dB, it is suitable for both portable listening and use with a DAC or headphone amplifier.
MOONDROP CHU III: Aluminum-Magnesium Diaphragm and N52 Magnetic Motor
The MOONDROP CHU III is based on a 10mm dynamic driver whose aluminum-magnesium alloy composite dome diaphragm combines low mass and high rigidity. This design promotes a fast response and extended high-frequency reproduction, while contributing to the reproduction of the finest details. The diaphragm suspension uses two polymer materials with different characteristics to improve the driver's behavior, particularly in the bass, and reduce nonlinear distortion. The motor uses an N52 neodymium magnet with a remanence greater than 1.5 T, combined with a lightweight CCAW voice coil, in order to increase driver efficiency, improve transient response, and better reproduce micro-dynamics. The driver technology used also allows nonlinear distortion to be reduced to less than 0.05% across the entire frequency range, according to the manufacturer.
MOONDROP CHU III: Acoustic Tuning and CNC-Machined Brass Nozzle
The CHU III benefits from acoustic tuning based on measurements and comparative listening tests, with a frequency response close to the PopAvg-DF (JM-1) target derived from HRTF measurements using a B&K 5128 dummy head. This tuning aims to achieve natural and balanced reproduction, with good treble extension, precise imaging, and a smooth timbre. The acoustic structure also incorporates an independent CNC-machined brass nozzle. The precision of its machining and the high density of brass help reduce volume variations in the acoustic channel and better control standing waves at high frequencies. The overall design contributes to more consistent reproduction while retaining the compact and ergonomic form factor characteristic of the CHU series.
