The Moondrop Starfield III are wired in-ear monitors with dual dynamic drivers, designed around the D.W.T. acoustic architecture. Their two-way system combines a 10mm driver dedicated to the bass with a 7.8mm miniature driver for the treble, in order to split frequency reproduction between two specialized elements.
Intended for everyday listening as well as extended sessions, they combine an iteratively refined ergonomic design with a USB-C connector integrating a sound card and a 32-band parametric DSP. This configuration allows the sound response to be adjusted from the Moondrop app, while making them easy to use with a compatible USB-C source.
The Moondrop Starfield III are based on the D.W.T architecture, which combines two dynamic drivers in a two-way acoustic design. A 10mm driver developed by Moondrop handles the bass, while a 7.8mm miniature driver is dedicated to the high frequencies; this arrangement aims to better distribute energy across the entire spectrum and to have each driver operate within its dedicated range.

The 7.8mm driver features a composite diaphragm with a diamond-like carbon (DLC) dome, combined with a flexible suspension. This structure aims to extend the treble response and reproduce more detail, while limiting distortion as dynamic levels increase. The suspension also helps lower the crossover point in the upper bass/midrange, for a more gradual transition between the two ways.
The 10mm driver relies on a dual magnetic circuit with equivalent internal and external volumes, designed to support the large excursions required by rapid level changes in the bass. Its composite diaphragm combines a wood dome, whose stiffness and internal damping promote a controlled response, with a flexible suspension with high internal impedance. The assembly aims to limit distortion during large excursions while preserving the range of motion needed to reproduce low frequencies.

Moondrop uses 3D printing to produce complex acoustic channels and filters, which contribute to the frequency matching of the drivers within a compact architecture. The D.W.T design of the Starfield III extends this approach to control the acoustic response and ensure consistent production. The manufacturer states that it has worked on linearity as well as on linear and non-linear distortion.
The shape of the Starfield III results from several iterations of ergonomic modeling. Moondrop claims improved fit and comfort compared to the previous generation, with a design intended for extended listening, particularly for stage monitoring or competitive use.

Moondrop developed this structure in cooperation with HeyGears Technology, a specialist in high-precision DLP 3D printing. This collaboration aims to mass-produce complex acoustic shapes while meeting strict requirements for precision and dimensional stability.
The faceplate features an iridescent finish whose colors vary with viewing angle and lighting, along with a gold printed pattern reflecting the visual identity of the Starfield range. The anodized aluminum alloy base complements this finish and helps protect the painted shell.

The copper cable uses a Litz-type structure, limiting skin effect and high-frequency losses, thus preserving the integrity of the transmitted signal. Beyond conductivity, it features an interchangeable termination system, supplied with 3.5mm jack, 4.4mm jack and USB-C connectors, allowing direct adaptation to different sources.
The interchangeable USB-C connector integrates a sound card rated at 60mW output power, as well as a dedicated chip that Moondrop presents as more powerful than a standard integrated sound card. The second-generation DSP provides access to a 32-band parametric equalizer, adjustable from the Moondrop app. Filter, frequency, gain and Q factor parameters can be adjusted individually, using the original response curve as a reference for tuning.
To adjust the acoustic parameters, driver characteristics and filter circuit, Moondrop states that it combined computational tools such as finite element analysis (FEA) with repeated measurements on acoustic coupling equipment, including the B&K 5128. Internal listening sessions also contributed to fine-tuning the tonal balance, in addition to measurements.
