xDuoo MT-02 Class A Hybrid Tube Headphone Amplifier 1500mW 32Ω
The MT-02 by xDuoo is a hybrid headphone amplifier designed to drive both low and high impedance headphones, with power reaching up to 1500mW into 32Ω. Its architecture combines two 6J1 tubes in the preamplification stage with a transistor-based power stage operating in Class A, in order to combine tube signal processing with a driving capability suited to different loads. This design also delivers 130mW into 600Ω, while maintaining a frequency response of 10Hz to 60kHz.
Intended for a desktop Hi-Fi setup, it includes two gain levels allowing operation to be adapted to different headphones, along with RCA, 6.35mm and 4.4mm outputs as well as an RCA input. Its preamplified output also allows connection to an external amplifier or active speakers, while the Class A design requires sufficient ventilation around the enclosure to accompany the unit's heat dissipation.
xDuoo MT-02: Amplification architecture and performance
The two 6J1 tubes process the signal upstream, while the Class A transistor stage supplies the current required to drive the headphone. This arrangement allows the available power to be adapted to different impedances, from 32Ω models up to 600Ω headphones. The frequency response of 10Hz to 60kHz maintains a consistent reproduction across the entire spectrum. The signal-to-noise ratio of 118dB limits background noise, while THD+N of 0.1% or lower at 1kHz into 32Ω preserves signal accuracy. Crosstalk of 73dB or higher also contributes to maintaining a clean separation between the two channels.
xDuoo MT-02: Gain and connectivity
The two gain levels allow amplification to be adjusted according to the sensitivity and impedance of the headphone. The RCA line input receives the signal from an external source, while the RCA line output allows it to be sent to another audio device. The 6.35mm and 4.4mm headphone outputs cover the main connection formats used on a desktop headphone amplifier. Beyond headphone listening, the preamplified output allows the MT-02 to be connected to a power amplifier or active speakers. It can thus operate as a control stage in a compact setup, and not only as a headphone amplifier.
Startup and protections
The 30-second startup delay gives the tubes time to gradually warm up before the output is fully activated. This sequence limits transient noises during power-up, while the overload and short-circuit protections safeguard the amplifier and the headphone during use.
xDuoo MT-02: Power supply, ground and structure
The external 12V / 2A power supply separates the mains conversion from the audio enclosure and facilitates its integration on a desk or in a Hi-Fi system. The external ground terminal helps reduce the hum that may appear when several devices are connected within the same setup.
The aluminum chassis reinforces the mechanical rigidity of the unit and protects the circuits against external interference. Its design also supports the thermal management associated with Class A operation.
