The Dayton Audio MX5-22 is a compact 5.25-inch dual voice coil (DVC) subwoofer driver designed to deliver deep and dynamic bass despite its compact size. Part of the Dayton Audio Max-X series, it features a long-excursion architecture combined with a high-energy motor to provide impressive performance both in home HiFi and car audio applications. Its dual 2Ω voice coil system allows multiple wiring configurations to optimize compatibility with a wide range of amplifiers. Capable of handling up to 50W RMS and 100W peak power, the MX5-22 benefits from a low resonance frequency of 45Hz and a large linear excursion of 9.3mm Xmax, enabling it to produce powerful, precise, and controlled bass in compact sealed or bass-reflex enclosures.

The MX5-22 is built with a particularly refined design featuring a treated paper cone, a large concave dust cap fully covering the cone to improve mechanical rigidity, and a reinforced rubber surround optimized for high excursion. Its 4-layer CCA voice coil mounted on a ventilated aluminum former improves heat dissipation, while its ventilated motor with multiple vents reduces thermal compression during high-power operation. Dayton Audio also integrates an aluminum demodulation ring to stabilize inductance and significantly reduce distortion, resulting in a cleaner and more linear response throughout the driver's excursion range.

With a frequency response from 30Hz to 1000Hz, a sensitivity of 84.3dB, a force factor of 8T·m, and a reinforced steel frame specially designed for long excursion, the MX5-22 offers an excellent performance-to-size ratio. Its 6-inch outer diameter, shallow 89mm mounting depth, and 4.75-inch cutout diameter make it easy to integrate into many compact DIY audio projects requiring powerful and controlled bass performance.
