DAYTON AUDIO SS15-PR Passive Radiator

The Dayton Audio SS15-PR is a 38.1cm (15") passive radiator designed to extend the low-frequency response of high-output subwoofer enclosures, notably as a complement to the SS15-22 subwoofer. By replacing the traditional port, it allows tuning the enclosure without airflow noise, while avoiding the size constraints associated with a long port.

Its construction is based on that of the Signature Series range, with a cast aluminum frame, an anodized aluminum cone and a rubber surround. These elements are designed to accommodate the large excursions of a high-power system, while the Sandwich Mass Structure (SMS) system places the tuning mass between the spider and the surround to promote symmetrical movement.

Tuning is done using a threaded rod, a wing nut and a Nylock lock nut, which allow the added mass to be adjusted and secured. The five 116 g masses provided offer a margin for adapting the enclosure tuning. Paired with the SS15-22, the SS15-PR thus integrates into home theater and music systems requiring high-level low-frequency extension.
