The Musician Aquila is a high-end analog Hi-Fi preamplifier designed to drive a power amplifier and precisely adjust the volume of an audio system. It is based on a fully discrete transistor architecture, a balanced design and Class A operation, combined with an R2R architecture for volume control. Its relay-switched resistor attenuator offers 60 adjustment levels to ensure precise volume control. In terms of connectivity, it features two balanced XLR inputs and one unbalanced RCA input, as well as balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs to integrate into various Hi-Fi systems. A digital display indicates the selected source and volume level, while an aluminum remote control allows the device to be operated remotely. Its low-noise linear power supply is paired with a custom-designed 80W transformer. Finally, its CNC-machined brushed aluminum chassis protects the circuits against radio frequency interference and provides a refined finish. The Musician Aquila is designed for demanding Hi-Fi systems seeking an analog preamplifier with versatile connectivity and precise adjustments.

The Musician Aquila features an amplification circuit made entirely of discrete components, with a balanced architecture operating in Class A. This design aims to provide continuous signal amplification without crossover distortion. The manufacturer also highlights the R2R architecture, particularly for volume control. The stated performance figures include a total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N) of 0.0003%, a signal-to-noise ratio of 120dB and a dynamic range greater than 120dB. The frequency response extends from 10Hz to 100kHz at -1dB, while stereo crosstalk is specified at -110dB. These specifications provide an indication of the preamplifier's stated electrical performance in an analog Hi-Fi system.

The Musician Aquila uses a relay-switched resistor attenuator offering 60 volume levels. Unlike a conventional analog potentiometer, this system selects precision resistors to adjust the signal level. According to the manufacturer, it maintains a constant output impedance regardless of the selected volume, with the aim of preserving signal integrity and soundstage detail. Adjustments can be made directly using the large front-panel knob or remotely with the supplied remote control. The digital display indicates the selected volume level, making everyday adjustment easier.
The Musician Aquila's analog connectivity allows several sources to remain connected simultaneously. It features two balanced XLR inputs for compatible devices and one unbalanced RCA input for a conventional stereo source. Sources can be selected from the front panel or using the remote control. On the output side, the preamplifier offers balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA connectors for connecting one or more compatible power amplifiers. The manufacturer states that both types of outputs can be used simultaneously, for example to drive two amplification systems. The input impedance is greater than 50 kΩ; the specified output impedances are 400 Ω for balanced connections and 200 Ω for unbalanced connections.

To power its circuits, the Musician Aquila incorporates a custom-designed 80W O-type transformer and a low-noise linear power supply. The manufacturer specifies the use of monocrystalline copper conductors to reduce interference caused by eddy currents and promote low-ripple voltage regulation. The stated power consumption is 20W during operation and 1W in standby. The entire assembly is housed in an aerospace-grade, CNC-machined brushed aluminum chassis, which also helps protect the electronics against radio frequency interference. The device measures 330 × 320 × 75 mm, including the feet, and has a stated weight of 6kg according to the seller's technical specifications. A CNC-machined aluminum remote control equipped with ALPS buttons and a VISHAY infrared LED is included. It allows the user to power the device on, switch it to standby, mute the sound, select inputs and adjust the volume. It operates using a CR2032 battery, sold separately. The AC power cable is not included.
