ETI Coda RCA: an advanced design

The main solution for keeping the connector free from interference is to get rid of the ground. The sound can be altered by the capacitance and additional resistance of too much ground. With this in mind, ETI has chosen to keep mass to a minimum. To achieve this, the silver is machined in such a way as to leave almost only the signal contact. This method is much more costly to manufacture, but the sonic result is very much in evidence. The return contact is assembled by hand and integrated into the connector body. This ensures that the ETI Coda connector will work for years, whatever the conditions of use and the force applied when connecting it.

huge disappointment for its price
Price: currently (sept 2026) Audiophonics asks €300 for 4 connectors, which is about €100 cheaper than other dealers
Packaging: nice box, however no instructions, leaflet or description of the contents
Body: sturdy and nicely polished, with good quality cable clamp
Pins: nice hollow central pin; no surface coating, so direct exposure of the soft silver; slight dark discoloration due to the formation of silver sulfide
Dielectric 1: black plastic that liquifies and boils away during soldering with ROHS/Pb-free Mundorf Msolder Supreme @ 300C thereby displacing the pin; solution → use a rca socket to keep everything in place during soldering; sorry to say, but in my opinion this is unforgivable for such an expensive plug
Dielectric 2: my ETI Brio XLR connectors have ptfe as dielectric, and melting has never been an issue; my WBT plugs and sockets also don’t have ptfe as dielectric, but melting has never happened
Sound: punchy and natural, like silver always does when the proportions are right; however, I’m not impressed by the small increase of spaciousness when compared to my WBT-0201 plugs
My personal conclusion: for €300 I’d expect at least a better dielectric; sound-wise I’m not very impressed
