The FiiO DM15 R2R is a hybrid architecture CD player designed to combine stabilised playback mechanics, discrete R2R conversion and high-power amplification within a chassis designed for both portable and desktop use. Its internal design is based on an R2R DAC with discrete resistors, totalling 192 resistors selected for their precision and thermal stability, enabling continuous and consistent digital-to-analogue conversion, faithful to organic texture and analogue timbres.
Beyond CD playback, this approach extends to a USB-C DAC function capable of handling high-resolution streams up to 32bit 384kHz PCM and DSD256, while retaining the same R2R conversion chain. The integrated amplification, capable of delivering up to 2 × 1150mW under 32 ohms in desktop mode, allows for connection to a wide variety of headphones, while Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity based on a Qualcomm QCC3095 chip enables wireless streaming via aptX, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD and SBC codecs. This versatility is enhanced by differentiated power management, combining an internal battery for portable use and full bypass in a stationary configuration, making the DM15 R2R a CD player and DAC that fits naturally into everyday use.
The FiiOo DM15 R2R adopts an R2R conversion topology based on a discrete network of 192 resistors, organised into four independent channels of 48 resistors, enabling symmetrical and consistent conversion across the entire spectrum. These components are selected for a tolerance of 0.01% combined with a thermal drift limited to 30 ppm, ensuring electrical stability even during temperature variations associated with prolonged use. Beyond mathematical precision, this approach favours continuous signal reproduction, resulting in a dense and organic sound signature, directly inherited from traditional analogue architectures and particularly noticeable in timbres and dynamic micro-variations.

This conversion approach is based on a servo architecture derived from the DM13, whose principle has been retained while undergoing targeted mechanical optimisations. The integration of a spring-mounted steel ball system improves disc stability during rotation, limiting micro-vibrations that can affect optical reading. At the same time, this mechanical solution maintains smooth kinematics, making CD insertion and removal more natural, which in practice translates into more stable playback without compromising everyday ergonomics.

In order to fully exploit the capabilities of the R2R DAC beyond simple CD playback, the DM15 R2R incorporates a dedicated USB-C input, combined with a digital interface capable of handling high-resolution streams. This implementation allows support for PCM signals up to 32bit 384kHz as well as DSD256, while maintaining a processing chain consistent with the converter's discrete architecture. This versatility allows the DM15 to be used as a standalone DAC, both in a mobile context and in a high-resolution stationary configuration.
Wireless connectivity is based on a Qualcomm QCC3095 chip, ensuring stable and energy-efficient Bluetooth 5.4 transmission. This platform supports aptX, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD and SBC codecs, allowing automatic adjustment of bitrate and latency depending on the source and listening context. This approach ensures continuity of use between local playback, wireless streaming and internal DAC operation, without introducing any functional disruption in the audio chain.

The DM15 R2R adopts a hybrid usage logic, based on two clearly differentiated modes: portable and desktop. When on the move, power is supplied by a 4700mAh battery, offering approximately 7 hours of battery life, sufficient for extended listening sessions without the need for an external power source. In a stationary configuration, desktop mode bypasses the battery power supply, reducing thermal and electrical constraints while unleashing the full potential of the output stage, which delivers up to 1150mW + 1150mW under 32 ohms, allowing it to be paired with demanding headphones without compromising on dynamics.
In addition to reading and conversion, the DM15 R2R includes CD ripping support via USB, allowing direct digital extraction of discs to an external device. This feature extends the player's use for archiving and digitisation purposes, while maintaining control over the optical playback chain. It is part of a comprehensive approach in which the DM15 is not limited to playback, but actively participates in the management and preservation of physical music libraries.
