With the R-29, Audio-GD offers a new R2R DAC and headphone amplifier based on the design of the R-28 MK3 model, sacrificing the balanced architecture to offer a device with similar qualities but at a much lower cost. Like its predecessor, the R-29 uses an FPGA-controlled and corrected resistor network for digital-to-analogue conversion and transistor signal amplification for its headphone outputs, delivering a typically analogue sound to your favourite tracks.
The R-29's digital-to-analogue conversion is handled by a network of ultra-low tolerance resistors, corrected by a high-speed FPGA logic circuit. This type of design is unique in that it does not rely solely on the analogue precision of the electronic components for conversion and reconstruction, but takes this same variability into account in the conversion process. This allows for sound reproduction with all the ‘density’ of R2R sound in its most subtle details, while maintaining excellent output signal stability.

The R29's digital circuitry uses high-quality components, specially selected and assembled to optimise the interpretation and decoding of the audio stream. These include a TCXO clock, an Altera FPGA logic circuit and a proprietary Xilinx FIFO on-chip input circuit for all digital inputs.
In this configuration, the FPGA can perform precise re-locking of the clock signal via the FIFO circuit, based on the internal clock rate, which further facilitates clock noise rejection and corrects digital imperfections accumulated from the audio source.
This digital circuit not only provides high-quality digital filtering, but also incorporates an oversampling function (x2 / x4 / x8) and two NOS modes (true NOS with 6dB analogue filtering). The entire system can be configured by the user to suit their listening preferences and the specific characteristics of their audio installation.
The analogue output stage of the R-29 is entirely discrete. Two pairs of 15 W transistors ensure excellent signal amplification capability, with an output power of up to 3800 mW at 25 Ω.

The R-29 offers a wide range of connectivity options, making it easy to integrate into all types of sound systems. It features HDMI I2S, USB-B and coaxial inputs, ensuring broad compatibility with source devices. In terms of outputs, in addition to a stereo RCA output, the front panel has two 6.35mm headphone outputs.
