4x DAC R2R PCM1704U-J

Four copies of the legendary Burr Brown PCM1704U-J DAC chip are in charge of the conversion of the digital audio streams. These R2R, two per channel in a balanced design, allow the SMSL VMV D3 to reveal a magnificent sound reproduction, as musical as precise.

USB XMOS Interface

The D3 DACs are directly associated with a 16-core XMOS XU216 USB interface. This allows to process the USB audio stream efficiently and quickly. It also supports high resolution files up to native DSD512 and PCM 32bit 768kHz for an incomparable precision reproduction.

Accusilicon clocks

The clock system incorporates two Accusilicon ultra-low phase noise oscillators in a PLL arrangement. This design ensures extremely low jitter, resulting in a very pure sound.

CPLD Altera MAX II

These clocks are used in conjunction with an Altera MAX II CPLD, which is responsible for perfectly processing and synchronizing the clock signals for the lowest possible jitter.

Low noise power supply

The power supply stage of the SMSL VMV D3 is not to be outdone since it integrates a custom low noise toroidal transformer, designed in the UK by Noratel. Thus, the power supply stage of the D3 is able to provide a clean and stable electrical signal to all the audio circuits of the device.

Digital filtering

The D3 incorporates a high quality SM5847 hardware digital filter, which is responsible for the oversampling function.

Thought out to the last detail

All the circuits have been optimized and each component carefully selected. Whether it is the seven OPA1612 AOPs, the specially developed low noise discrete components or the power supply regulation, nothing is left to chance to allow the D3 to provide an incredibly rich sound reproduction.

Connectivity

The SMSL VMV D3 is equipped with a complete connectic to adapt to all needs and all HiFi systems. It offers a large panel of inputs, with USB-B, I2S via HDMI, Toslink optical, coaxial and AES/EBU. It also provides a BNC input to take advantage of a dedicated external clock. For its outputs, the SMSL VMV DAC offers both single-ended RCA and balanced XLR.
