The Topping DX9 Discrete is an R2R DAC / headphone amplifier with even better performance than its predecessor, the DX9, which was based on AKM technology. the DX9 Discrete is based on a balanced PSRM circuit with 16 elements per channel combined with R2R resistor networks, as well as an AK4118 optical receiver chip and an XMOS XU-316 USB interface, enabling it to support high-resolution sampling rates up to PCM 32bit 768kHz and DSD512. The circuit is complemented by Altera MAX II CPLD, a high-precision clock, relay volume control, and a 6-channel NFCA amplification circuit for unmatched performance and power.
The DX9 Discrete delivers up to 2x 7080mW into a 32 ohms load via its headphone outputs. Added to this is a QCC5125 Bluetooth receiver chip supporting aptX, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, and LDAC codecs. In terms of aesthetics, it retains the appearance of its predecessor with a curved case with a transparent top plate and dual color screens featuring the Aurora UI interface. In terms of connectivity, it is not to be outdone with a full range of digital inputs, a set of RCA/XLR line outputs, and a set of RCA/XLR preamplified outputs.
The Topping DX9 Discrete DAC features the brand's proprietary 1-bit PSRM technology combined with R2R resistor networks for high-precision decoding. Topping's PSRM technology allows the R2R to process a 1-bit signal for even greater stability, less noise, and very high dynamics. This hybrid R2R + 1-bit modulation technology enables the DX9 Discrete to offer an SNR of 131dB.
The entire structure of the DX9 Discrete is made up of high-quality, audiophile components. It features a USB-XMOS XU316 interface and an AK4118 optical interface coupled with an Altera MAX II CPLD, enabling it to support high-resolution sampling rates up to PCM 32bit 768 kHz and DSD512 while eliminating jitter to achieve a rate of -160dB.
Within the DX9 Discrete, volume is managed in balanced way using relay and resistor networks for high-precision rendering. Combined with digital volume control, this achieves lower distortion levels and greater noise immunity, preserving sound reproduction for clear, purer rendering.
The headphone amplification is based on a balanced NFCA circuit and benefits from crossfeed functionality. The amplification circuit to the unbalanced connector and the circuit to the balanced connector are completely independent in order to preserve the signal from any distortion and to be able to deliver high power. The balanced headphone output is capable of delivering up to 2x7080mW under a 32 ohm load (THD+N < 1%). In addition, the crossfeed function simulates the HRTF function for improved spatialization, with greater depth and less channel separation.
The DX9 Discrete features Bluetooth 5.1 functionality thanks to a Qualcomm QCC5125 chip, enabling it to support SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, and LDAC codecs for reliable and stable wireless transmission.
To give you complete control over the tone of the sound reproduction, Topping has developed its own 10-band PEQ (parametric equalizer), allowing you to set the frequency response, gain, and bandwidth using the Topping Tune Windows application. The software supports the import of target curves and original curves, as well as curve compensation using target curves. You can also save multiple profiles and switch between them easily.
The rounded curves of the DX9 Discrete give it a unique aesthetic. Combined with two color screens and its Aurora UI interface, the user experience is exceptional. To top it all off, a transparent plate on the top of the device allows you to see its internal circuitry.
