The Musician DELPHINUS is a discrete stereo R2R DAC designed to convert high-resolution digital streams into analog signal. It supports PCM up to 24bit 1536kHz as well as DSD1024 via its USB and I2S inputs, while offering NOS and OS modes. Its architecture combines a 0.005% R2R network, an Altera chip and an FPGA dedicated to signal processing.

Intended for digital Hi-Fi setups, it combines five digital inputs with RCA and XLR outputs, allowing you to connect a computer, a digital transport, a player or a source equipped with an I2S output to an analog amplifier or preamplifier. The front panel gathers the controls and operating indicators, while the remote control allows adjustments to be made remotely without interacting directly with the unit.

Musician DELPHINUS: List of key features

Musician DELPHINUS: R2R architecture and signal processing

The DELPHINUS uses a discrete R2R architecture based on resistors with a tolerance of 0.005%. This design ensures the conversion of digital signals into stereo analog signal, while the Altera chip and the FPGA handle digital processing. The DAC offers two operating modes. The NOS mode disables oversampling in order to keep the stream in its native form, while the OS mode applies oversampling before conversion. The USB and I2S inputs allow the highest-resolution streams to be used, up to PCM 24bit 1536kHz and DSD1024.

Musician DELPHINUS: digital connectivity and analog outputs

The digital connectivity includes a coaxial input, an optical input, a USB input, an AES input and an I2S input. The DAC can thus receive the signal from a computer, a network player, a digital transport or a source equipped with an I2S output. The analog section includes a pair of unbalanced RCA outputs and a pair of balanced XLR outputs. The XLR outputs deliver a level of 4Vrms, suited to balanced connections between the DAC and a compatible preamplifier or amplifier.

It is not recommended to use the XLR and RCA outputs simultaneously.

Musician DELPHINUS: I2S input configurations

The I2S input offers 8 pinout modes in order to adapt the mapping of the DATA, BCK and LRCK signals to the connected source. This function compensates for wiring differences between manufacturers, which can prevent correct signal transmission despite the use of I2S connectivity. The appropriate mode can be selected directly on the unit.

Musician DELPHINUS: indicator lights and controls

The indicator lights show the operating status of the DAC, the selected digital input as well as the processing mode used. They also allow you to identify the format of the received signal and to quickly verify that the connected source is properly recognized. The front panel gathers the controls needed to select the input, choose the OS or NOS mode and access the various settings. The remote control repeats these functions in order to allow their modification from the listening position, without interacting directly with the DAC.

Musician DELPHINUS: power supply and integration

The power supply relies on an 80W toroidal transformer, which provides the energy needed for the digital and analog circuits. The DELPHINUS thus fits between a digital source and an amplification device equipped with analog inputs, with an RCA or XLR connection depending on the system configuration.
