The FiiO M33 R2R is an audiophile portable music player based on discrete R2R conversion, designed to play and process high-resolution audio streams in both portable and stationary settings. It delivers 2x 1100mW into 32Ω, utilising a balanced architecture and a network of resistors calibrated to 0.1% to ensure stable conversion and consistent reproduction across the entire spectrum.
Designed for versatile use combining local playback, streaming and USB DAC functionality, it features a smooth Android 13 platform with WiFi and Bluetooth backed by sophisticated digital processing, enabling playback of files up to 32bit 768kHz PCM and DSD512. This approach enables it to occupy a central position in a mobile or hybrid audio system, whilst maintaining rigorous signal management, from processing right through to amplification.
The M33 R2R is based on a discrete architecture comprising 192 resistors matched to 0.1% tolerance and featuring low thermal drift, which stabilises the conversion over time whilst minimising linearity deviations between channels. This approach ensures consistent reproduction across the entire spectrum, whilst the precision of the components reduces the quantisation errors typical of R2R networks. In addition to this hardware foundation, two sound profiles are available: a Flat mode favouring a neutral and linear response, whilst the Warm mode slightly shifts the sound towards denser timbres, allowing the sound to be adapted to different headphones or listening preferences.

The processing is handled by a 6nm-processed Snapdragon 680 octa-core processor, combining four cores running at 2.4GHz and four others at 1.9GHz, which effectively balances raw performance with power management. This architecture is complemented by 8GB of RAM, allowing audio applications and system services to remain in memory without any noticeable slowdown. This combination enables Android 13 to run smoothly, whilst ensuring stable playback of high-definition streams and streaming apps.
The USB interface is based on an XMOS XU316 controller, whose processing power enables it to handle PCM streams up to 32bit 768kHz as well as native DSD512. This integration ensures controlled asynchronous transmission, reducing synchronisation errors whilst preserving the integrity of the digital signal. This approach results in extensive compatibility with external sources, allowing the M33 to function as a USB DAC with no limitations on high-resolution formats.

The M33 R2R incorporates the proprietary DAPS (Digital Audio Purification System), which utilises a latest-generation FPGA coupled with femtosecond crystal oscillators to ensure jitter-free digital signal transmission. This architecture stabilises the signal stream prior to conversion, resulting in a more coherent sound reproduction, particularly in terms of micro-details and spatialisation.

The device features a 10-band equaliser that allows for fine-tuning of the frequency response, offering precise control over the sound output to suit your preferences or the characteristics of the headphones being used. This flexibility is enhanced by the inclusion of built-in presets, allowing you to quickly adjust the sound whilst retaining a customisable foundation for your settings.
The output stage utilises four INA1620 amplifiers, configured in a balanced topology to deliver 2x 1100mW under 32Ω. This configuration improves channel separation and minimises internal interference, thereby maintaining a well-defined soundstage even at high volumes. This available power allows for the driving of both low-sensitivity headphones and high-impedance models without any loss of dynamic control.

The M33 features a power supply architecture that separates the analogue and digital sections, thereby limiting the propagation of switching noise to the most sensitive stages and thus preserving the stability of the audio signal. This functional separation is complemented by three dedicated circuits for the R2R DAC, the preamplifier and the power amplifier stage respectively, allowing the power supply conditions to be precisely tailored to the specific requirements of each section. This targeted distribution helps maintain clean and constant voltages, resulting in clearer reproduction and better control of micro-details in real-world use.

Each internal section features specific shielding designed to contain electromagnetic interference and reduce crosstalk between circuits. This physical isolation complements the electronic architecture, ensuring signal integrity is maintained throughout the internal signal path. This approach results in improved channel separation and reduced noise interference under real-world operating conditions.

The power supply is provided by a 4400mAh battery offering up to 15.5 hours of continuous playback, allowing for extended use without frequent recharging. It supports 30W fast charging via the PD 2.0 and PD 3.0 PPS protocols. This is complemented by a Desktop mode that bypasses the battery when the device is plugged into the mains, thereby reducing wear and tear over time.
