This module will allow you to design a DAC that is extremely efficient in terms of musical and precise reproduction. Based on two AKM AK4497EQ Digital to Analog conversion chipset, these offer very good audio performance and support for high resolution audio files. These chips come with high-quality components and efficient yet expandable connectivity. The module is delivered with an OLED screen and a control panel to display and act on the reading information.

Dual AKM AK4497EQ DAC

The module includes two 32bit D/A AKM AK4497EQ conversion chips. It takes advantage of Lamarque's famous Velvet Sound architecture, allowing it to develop incredibly rich sound details while largely limiting signal distortion. In addition, there is a 32bit filter, which allows high-resolution files to be read. Thus, the DAC supports PCM files up to 32bit 384kHz but also native DSD up to DSD512.

Velvet Sound

Velvet Sound technology developed by AKM improves sound quality for more accurate, dynamic and immersive listening. It also integrates 6 filters: Super Slow Roll-Off, Short Delay Slow Roll-Off, Slow Roll-Off, Low Dispertion, Short Delay Sharp Roll-Off, Sharp Roll-Off. These different possibilities allow you to adapt the DAC to your audio and listening system.

4x OPA NJR 5534DD & Quality power supply stage

This DAC integrates high quality components to accompany the AK4497EQ chip duo and allow them to express their sound performance. The output stage of the DAC is equipped with four NJR 5534DD OPA mounted on DIP8 and therefore interchangeable to adapt the output to your listening needs. The power supply stage also benefits from a careful design. The circuit is divided into 3 circuits, each filtered by ELNA or KG Series capacitors, low noise LDO regulators and 317T / 337T linear voltage regulators. This design provides a stable and clean electrical signal and a large amount of current with incredible dynamics thanks to a fast and consistent response as well as deep bass and beautiful silences.

Screen & Buttons

The DAC is delivered with an OLED display and a control panel. The first one allows the display of information related to reading and decoding. We find the active source, the sampling rate, the volume, the type of filter or the duration of the track. The 3 buttons on the control panel allow you to change the active source or filters

Efficient and expandable connectivity...

The module offers a classic but very efficient connection. Indeed, we can find SPDIF at the input with a Coaxial RCA and a Toslink Optical connector. These inputs support PCM sampling rates up to 24bit 192kHz. An analog 3.5mm jack input is also present. On the output side, we find on the one hand unbalanced stereo RCA but also on the other hand a pair of XLR connectors for a balanced output. We also note the quality of the RCA and XLR connectors which are gold plated. The module can also take advantage of the addition of a USB input module to achieve higher sampling rates and DSD (module sold separately) or the addition of a Bluetooth receiver module to simply broadcast its music remotely.

The module, already powerful, can therefore be improved by adding an XMOS USB module. This will allow you to enjoy a high-performance USB-B input, supporting higher sampling rates than those supported by the Coaxial or Optical input. Thus, you will be able to enjoy PCM files up to 32bit 384kHz or native DSD up to DSD512. The USB module also includes an Altera Max II CPLD that considerably reduces jitter and provides a purer and clearer playback.
It is also possible to add a Bluetooth receiver module. The latter, very practical, will allow you to broadcast your music remotely, directly from your smartphone.

Un DAC à découvrir
Il faut reconnaitre que la construction de cette électronique est faite dans les règles. Le montage comme la mise en œuvre ne pose pas de problèmes particuliers. La première impression est bonne !

A la première écoute, je dois avoué avoir été un peu déçu. Il manquait des détails, la scène sonore était brouillonne.
Mes doutes se sont portés très vite sur le relais (situé à coté des embases RCA) . Composant plutôt cheap commutant le signal de sortie pour éviter clic et pop...
Je décide de retirer purement et simplement ce relais et de remplacer le contact travail du signal par un simple strap.
La preuve est faite à la fois de l'inutilité totale de ce relais, et surtout de son effet dévastateur sur le signal de sortie.

Tout s'arrange...et même beaucoup plus. Cette électronique est transfigurée. Précision, justesse des timbres, profondeur du grave, image sonore...c'est magique. Ce convertisseur fonctionne à merveille, apportant tout ce que l'on peut attendre d'un DAC en se faisant oublier.

L'écoute est réellement musicale et de très haut niveau.
