The SMSL AL400 is an integrated amplifier and DAC featuring high-performance architecture based on a TPA3255 amplifier chip and a Cirrus Logic CS43131 converter. It combines 2x165W power output into 4Ω with high-resolution 32bit 768kHz decoding, native DSD256, and full MQA support. Equipped with a parametric equaliser and dedicated subwoofer control, it is suitable for both stereo and 2.1 configurations. Its wide range of connections, including HDMI eARC, MM/MC phono input and high-resolution Bluetooth, make it a versatile control centre for your entire audio system.
The AL400 incorporates a TPA3255 Class D amplifier chip, delivering 2x165W under 4Ω while maintaining a THD+N of 0.03%. Volume control is based on a Japanese-made ROHM BD37524FS-E circuit, an electronic process that ensures precise adjustment across the entire dynamic range without any measurable signal degradation. This solution limits the introduction of noise and distortion, even at low listening levels, unlike conventional mechanical potentiometers, which can cause channel imbalance and gradual deterioration.

The DAC section of the AL400 is based on a Cirrus Logic CS43131 chip combined with an XMOS XU-316 USB processor. This combination supports files up to 32bit 768kHz PCM and DSD256. In addition, the AL400 also features full MQA and MQA-CD decoding, allowing you to enjoy your music regardless of format.
The AL400 features a multi-band equaliser that allows independent adjustment of treble, midrange and bass frequencies. Each frequency band has a gain control for targeted amplification or attenuation, as well as a Q control that defines the bandwidth affected by the correction. This module thus offers you acoustic correction that can be adapted to the characteristics of the listening room or the specific response of the speakers used, without the need for external equipment or additional software processing.
A dedicated subwoofer output allows for a 2.1 configuration with independent volume control from the main level. The AL400 offers four selectable low-pass cutoff frequencies (55Hz, 85Hz, 120Hz, 160Hz), allowing you to adjust the crossover point between the main speakers and the subwoofer according to their respective bass extension. A phase inverter offers a choice between 0° and 180°, a correction that is sometimes necessary to align the subwoofer's output with that of the speakers, particularly when their spatial positioning generates unwanted cancellations or reinforcements in the lower end of the spectrum.

The AL400's connectivity covers all common digital and analogue sources. The HDMI eARC input allows volume control and automatic power-up via CEC protocol, the USB input uses the XMOS XU-316 processor to handle 32-bit/768kHz and DSD256 streams, and coaxial and optical inputs complete the digital options.
On the analogue side, a built-in phono preamplifier allows direct connection of a turntable equipped with MM (Moving Magnet) or MC (Moving Coil) cartridges, eliminating the need for an external preamplifier. An RCA line input handles other analogue sources.
Finally, the Bluetooth section supports LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, AAC and SBC codecs, ensuring high-quality sound reproduction even when connected wirelessly.
