Audalytic DR80N Streamer R2R Discrete DAC 768kHz DSD1024 Argent
The Audalytic DR80n is a streamer and R-2R DAC with a discrete resistor ladder, designed to play network music streams and convert digital signals to analog. Its 26-bit architecture supports PCM files up to 768kHz and DSD up to DSD1024.
Intended for a hi-fi system, it combines network playback, wired inputs and Bluetooth 5.1 reception to accommodate various sources. Its low-impedance output stage and analog volume control allow it to be used as a DAC or connected directly to a power amplifier.
Audalytic DR80n: Discrete 26-bit R-2R conversion
The DR80n relies on a proprietary discrete R-2R module, in which a precision resistor network converts the digital signal into an analog signal. Its 26-bit balanced architecture is based on rigorous resistor matching, essential to conversion linearity. Rather than entrusting this stage to an integrated DAC chip, Audalytic thus adopts a discrete component design, whose precision depends directly on the quality of the network and its assembly.
Audalytic DR80n: FPGA-driven digital processing
Upstream of the conversion, the programmable FPGA handles several essential functions of the DR80n: clock management, digital shaping, DoP demodulation and anti-pop switching between PCM and DSD streams. This configurable logic coordinates signal processing and ensures controlled transitions between formats. The CK-01 clock module provides a femtosecond reference to the entire DAC in order to synchronize its various circuits.
Audalytic DR80n: Amanero USB interface
Jointly developed by Gustard and Amanero, the USB DDC interface relies on an ARM Cortex-M7 processor, which handles data processing with low latency. It accepts PCM streams up to 768kHz and DSD up to DSD1024, allowing the DR80n to receive high-resolution files from a computer source or a compatible digital transport.
Audalytic DR80n: Power supply distributed by circuit
Segmented filtering and multi-rail regulation assign a distinct function to each power supply line in order to limit interactions between the different stages. This arrangement provides the digital circuits, the conversion stage and the analog outputs with a power supply suited to their respective needs, helping preserve their operation within a complex architecture.
Audalytic DR80n: Volume control
At the DAC output, a low-impedance analog stage allows the DR80n to adapt to a wide range of downstream loads while preserving the signal. The built-in analog volume control allows fine level adjustment; when the unit is connected to a preamplifier or an amplifier with its own control, direct mode bypasses this function.
Audalytic DR80n: Bluetooth 5.1
In addition to its digital inputs, the DR80n features a Bluetooth 5.1 receiver based on a Qualcomm QCC5125 chip. Compatible with the LDAC, AAC, SBC and aptX codecs, it allows music to be streamed from a smartphone or another Bluetooth source, while wired connections remain available for high-resolution digital sources.
Audalytic DR80n: Network player function
The DR80n also integrates the CelWare network playback platform, developed with Cel Audio around a hardware and software architecture dedicated to music. Its system, based on a Linux kernel optimized for real-time audio, prioritizes the processing of music streams and allows unused protocols to be disabled to lighten playback. Settings are accessible from a browser via "dr80.local" or from the Bridge app on iOS and Android, to control the network function from a computer, tablet or smartphone.
