DAYTON AUDIO SS8-PR Passive Radiator

The Dayton Audio SS8-PR is a 20.32cm (8") passive radiator designed to extend the low-frequency response of a compact speaker, particularly as a complement to the SS8-22 subwoofer. By replacing the port with a passive membrane, it allows tuning of the enclosure volume without airflow noise or the need for a long port, which facilitates the design of low-footprint systems.

Its construction reuses the aesthetic and mechanical elements of the Signature Series range: cast aluminum frame, anodized cone, and rubber surround. This membrane is designed to accommodate the large excursions required to reproduce low frequencies, while the Sandwich Mass Structure (SMS) system holds the tuning mass between the spider and the surround to preserve symmetrical movement.

Tuning is done using a threaded rod, a wing nut, and a Nylock lock nut, which allow the added mass to be adjusted and then secured. The five supplied 46 g masses offer several options for adjusting the tuning frequency, to adapt the radiator to the enclosure volume and the desired behavior. Paired with the SS8-22, the SS8-PR is thus suitable for compact home theater, hi-fi, or car audio configurations.
