The Moondrop Moonriver 3 is a portable USB DAC / headphone amplifier designed to deliver very high-fidelity audio reproduction on the go. As the successor to the Moonriver series, it features an advanced architecture combining dual Cirrus Logic CS43198 DACs, independent amplification stages, as well as an optimized power circuit based on 5 dedicated power chips for each section.
Capable of decoding high-resolution audio streams up to PCM 32bit 384kHz and native DSD256, it ensures extremely precise and detailed reproduction, with ultra-low distortion (THD+N ≈ 0.00018%), a wide dynamic range up to 131dB, and extremely low noise floor.
The Moonriver 3 delivers high output power reaching 4Vrms / 500mW, allowing it to drive both sensitive in-ear monitors and more demanding headphones.
It also features a physical 100-step volume control, a second-generation interactive DSP with parametric equalizer, as well as compatibility with the Moondrop Link app for advanced sound customization.
In terms of connectivity, it includes a USB-C audio input, a USB-C port dedicated to power, and two headphone outputs: a 3.5mm jack output and a balanced 4.4mm jack output.
Moondrop Moonriver 3: Advanced DSP and sound customization
The Moonriver 3 features a second-generation interactive DSP, accessible via app, allowing very precise sound adjustment. The app provides access to numerous features: parametric equalizer (PEQ), frequency / gain / Q factor adjustment, and a community library of audio profiles. This solution allows the sound rendering to be tailored to each headphone or user preference. The DSP can also be activated via a physical button directly accessible on the Moonriver 3.
Moondrop Moonriver 3: Independent power supply & fast charging
The DAC features a second USB-C port dedicated to power, allowing:
- Independent powering of the audio circuit
- Reduction of electrical interference
- Simultaneous charging of a smartphone (up to 60W PD)
This feature is particularly useful for extended mobile use, preventing rapid battery drain of the source device while maintaining optimal performance.
