This extension for Raspberry Pi (compatible with each model that has 40pins) fulfills both the battery receptacle function, BMS (load manager / intelligent and autonomous discharge) and power management (control hardware and software of the power and off) and UPS (uninterruptible power supply).
Amazingly simple to install and manage, this extension is mostly able to work in synergy with a wide range of other extensions to get the most of famous SBC limitations in terms of battery, storage and control.
It has two GPIO connectors to not monopolize this essential connection on an RPI. A second connector provides power to a second apparatus / HAT / or pHAT DC module.
The cradle accumulator already mounted on the expansion card up to 2 lithium batteries size 18650. Even when the power cable is plugged ,, they remain in position UPS (uninterruptible power supply) to prevent any risk of placing out sudden voltage. That is to say that the accumulators will automatically and immediately the relay if the power should be cut off suddenly (torn cable, power outage ... ect.)
These battery cells are lightweight and durable due to their extended battery life (3000mAh per unit on average). These rechargeable batteries are interchangeable, that is to say, it will be possible subsequently to use more powerful batteries to follow the needs of your project, or replace if they betray signs of fatigue.
The charge / discharge circuit has its own electronic safety. These are much more effective than the protection circuits that sometimes equip accumulators. We must therefore ensure priority of electronic protection without batteries and stable chemistry (IMR / High Drain). You can find such batteries here. (13078)
The polarity is indicated in the cradle carefully accumulator. It is imperative to respect strictly.
Depending on the needs and constraints of weight, it is possible to mount only one battery in the cradle.
The card supports autonomous charging and discharging. That is to say that the internal circuit is capable of interrupting the accumulator charging process to prevent overcharging.
Similarly, the logic out of himself the Raspberry Pi as soon as it detects that the battery is soon discharged. This not only increases the life of the hardware RPI avoiding any sudden extinction, but also batteries which can work in conditions specially assembled to prevent wear ..
Finally, the circuit has a WOL (Wake On LAN) native. That is to say, it is possible to use a network statement to initiate the ignition of the Raspberry Pi remotely. To this end, the X720 is equipped with its own Ethernet port. This will dedicate the remote start function and to switch off the SBC rather than let it hibernate.
When two batteries are mounted at the same time, they MUST :
- Have the same specs (same model, same brand...).
- Be charged at the same level on the same charger.
- Have the same age (never put together an old cell and a brand new battery, even if the two first conditions are true).
NEVER ever plug the power cable of the Raspberry Pi if the latter is already powered by the module.
