The FiiO JT9 is an open-back planar magnetic headphone equipped with a proprietary 95 × 86mm driver, combining an ultra-thin 1µm diaphragm with a dual-layer sapphire and aluminum coating. This architecture aims for a fast and extended response, while incorporating a precision manufacturing process for the conductive diaphragm.
With a sensitivity of 112dB at 1kHz, the JT9 pairs equally well with a portable source or a home listening system. Its specifically tuned cable and redesigned ear cup structure complete a headphone designed to combine ease of driving, detailed reproduction and a wider soundstage.
FiiO JT9: Aluminum and sapphire diaphragm
The FiiO JT9 features a proprietary 95 × 86mm planar magnetic driver, built around a high-performance PET diaphragm. Its 1 µm diaphragm receives a patented dual-layer coating combining sapphire and aluminum, in order to optimize frequency response and combine low mass with mechanical strength. The conductive coil is manufactured using a precision process inspired by semiconductor production: it is processed under a vacuum of 6.6 × 10⁻³Pa, then exposed to a chamber heated to 120°C, where metal ions are deposited onto the diaphragm by electrostatic attraction. This controlled deposition aims to ensure uniform thickness as well as long-term reliability of the assembly.
FiiO JT9: A refined response
The low mass of the diaphragm promotes a fast transient response, while its large surface area contributes to bass extension and dynamics. This architecture allows fine musical details to be reproduced, from the harmonics of a violin to the resonances of a cymbal. The redesigned ear cup structure also aims to reduce the "in-head" sound impression and widen the soundstage, with a more natural and vertical presentation.
FiiO JT9: Copper cable
The supplied cable is designed to complement the acoustic characteristics of the driver. Made of copper, it combines 0.06mm, 0.08 mm and 0.12mm strands in a 22AWG conductor, with the aim of supporting the weight of the midrange and bass while preserving an airy presentation. Finally, its sensitivity of 112dB at 1kHz allows it to be used with portable sources, notably a smartphone paired with a compact DAC/amplifier, without requiring high-power amplification.
