Shanling EC Play: Magnetic architecture
The playback mechanism is based on an advanced active magnetic design, which continuously adjusts the position and pressure applied to the disc in order to stabilise rotation and reduce unwanted mechanical vibrations that typically compromise playback accuracy in a portable setting. This approach is further enhanced by the integration of Shanling’s in-house developed servo system, which refines real-time tracking and thus ensures precise, gapless playback, even on tracks with consecutive sections where the slightest interruption would be noticeable.
Shanling EC Play: Dual CS43198 DAC
Analogue conversion is handled by a dual implementation of the CS43198 chip, forming a symmetrical architecture that isolates the left and right channels right from the conversion stage, thereby reducing crosstalk and preserving the stereo image. In USB DAC mode, this architecture extends its capabilities to 32bit 384kHz PCM and DSD256, covering all common high-resolution formats and allowing the EC Play to be used as an external converter for a third-party digital source.
Shanling EC Play: 700 mW output power
The amplifier stage is based on two SGM8262 circuits operating in a dual-channel configuration, delivering 700mW into a 32Ω load, which allows for the use of a wide range of headphones, from sensitive in-ear models to those with moderate impedance, without the need for an external amplifier.
Shanling EC Play: Bluetooth 6.0
The Bluetooth 6.0 module operates in bidirectional mode, significantly expanding the range of possible usage scenarios. In receive mode, it supports LDAC, AAC and SBC codecs, allowing the EC Play to be used as a Bluetooth DAC for a mobile source whilst benefiting from the conversion quality of the CS43198; in SBC transmission mode, it routes the signal to a wireless speaker or headphones, making the EC Play a central hub in hybrid listening systems combining physical sources and wireless streaming.
