The iFi Audio NEO iDSD 3 is a DAC and headphone amplifier based on Burr-Brown conversion architecture, enabling it to simultaneously perform digital-to-analogue conversion of PCM streams up to 32bit 762kHz and DSD512, combined with an amplifier stage capable of delivering up to 2532mW under 64Ω.
Beyond this hardware foundation, the device adopts a separate processing architecture for PCM and DSD streams, ensuring bit-perfect handling tailored to each format, while proprietary processing technologies enhance frequency response and perceived spatialisation. This approach is extended by the integration of Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity compatible with high-definition codecs such as aptX Lossless, aptX Adaptive, LDAC and LHDC, thus preserving excellent resolution even in a wireless transmission context.
iFi Audio NEO iDSD 3 : An amplifier for all headphones
In addition to generous amplification of 2532mW at 64Ω, the Neo IDSD 3 has been designed to drive even the most power-hungry headphones. It features three gain modes to suit all situations. First is Normal mode at +0dB, which is mainly useful for earphones, as they are generally equipped with low-power speakers. Next is Turbo mode at +6dB, designed for headphones with medium sensitivity. Finally, there is Nitro mode at +12dB, for the most demanding headphones.
In addition, you can activate the brand's proprietary feature, iEMatch. This allows your high-sensitivity headphones and earphones to benefit from reduced background noise and an increased usable volume range.
iFi Audio NEO iDSD 3 : Burr-Brown DAC
The NEO iDSD 3 bases its digital-to-analogue conversion on a Burr-Brown DAC chip and is capable of handling signals up to 32bit 768kHz PCM and DSD512, allowing you to enjoy the highest resolution content. Furthermore, to ensure bit-perfect support for each technology, the device employs a dual-circuit architecture, with each circuit specialising in PCM and DSD processing.
Beyond its ability to handle high-resolution files, the NEO iDSD 3 incorporates K2 and K2HD technologies, which improve the harmonic coherence and microdynamics of PCM streams, enhancing the perceived continuity of recordings from digital masters.
iFi Audio NEO iDSD 3 : XSpace and XBass technology
The NEO iDSD 3 also incorporates many of the brand's proprietary technologies, such as XSpace and Xbass. Once activated, the former widens the soundstage, which is very useful in closed-back headphones to avoid a feeling of enclosedness.
XBass technology, meanwhile, comes in several variations. The basic XBass setting enhances the lower end of the audio spectrum and is particularly suitable for use with open-back headphones to compensate for the lack of bass inherent in their design. XBass Presence mode, on the other hand, enhances the mid-range for more pronounced vocals. Finally, the last mode combines the basic XBass mode and Presence mode if you want to enjoy both settings at the same time.
