IFI AUDIO ZEN CAN STUDIO Class A Headphone Amplifier Preamplifier
The iFi Audio ZEN CAN Studio is a headphone amplifier dedicated to mixing, monitoring and mastering applications. Its compact chassis allows use in the studio, control room, on stage or in a rehearsal space, while its Class A amplification stage and balanced architecture provide a rendering suited to monitoring recordings on headphones.
iFi Audio ZEN CAN Studio: 15.1V power output
The ZEN CAN Studio delivers a maximum output voltage of 15.1 V into 300 Ω, in order to drive headphones with various impedance levels. Four gain levels, spaced +6 dB apart, allow the amplification to be adjusted according to the headphones used and the desired listening level. The mono select function also allows listening to the left channel, the right channel or both channels on both earcups, a configuration useful for monitoring mono signals or following an individual source.
iFi Audio ZEN CAN Studio: Class A amplification circuit
The audio circuit relies on an OV operational amplifier combined with balanced Class A amplification. The voltage conversion circuits, complemented by LC filtering, isolate the audio stages from the internal power supply, while a capacitance reserve provides the current needed for short transients. The microcontroller and LEDs enter standby mode when not in use, and the internal switching relies on FET transistors in order to limit their influence on the signal. The manufacturer thus states a distortion rate of 0.0001 %.
iFi Audio ZEN CAN Studio: Balanced and unbalanced connectivity
The ZEN CAN Studio accepts both balanced links and unbalanced connections, which allows it to integrate into different audio sources and working configurations. This connectivity allows it to be paired with a digital-to-analog converter, an interface or stage equipment, without imposing a single type of link.
iFi Audio ZEN CAN Studio: Designed for monitoring
The balanced 4.4 mm jack output can be used to connect a pair of active near-field speakers. The volume potentiometer then directly controls the monitor level, turning the ZEN CAN Studio into a desktop monitoring controller while retaining its headphone amplifier function. It can thus be used for monitoring musicians in the studio or on stage, for monitoring with in-ear monitors, particularly for keyboardists, drummers and stationary musicians, as well as for monitoring the mixing and mastering stages.
