DAYTON AUDIO SD315A-88 Subwoofer Speaker

The Dayton Audio SD315A-88 is a 30.48cm (12") subwoofer speaker designed for bass systems requiring significant extension in the lower part of the spectrum, while maintaining a ratio between power handling and integration cost suited to DIY projects. Its dual voice coil of 8 Ω per coil, presented here with parallel wiring to obtain a 4 Ω load, allows various amplification configurations and facilitates its adaptation to sealed or bass-reflex enclosures. With a power handling of 120 W RMS, reaching up to 240 W maximum, a frequency response of 24 to 2,000 Hz and a sensitivity of 93.75 dB at 2.83 V/1 m, it delivers a high bass level while retaining usable reproduction in the first octave.

Its poly-treated paper cone, combined with a long-life rubber surround and a long-excursion design, helps maintain mechanical control during large displacements, while the vented pole pieces and the raised back plate promote thermal dissipation of the motor. This architecture is extended by a basket without an added gasket, whose compact finish simplifies installation and preserves a consistent appearance once the speaker is mounted. Thanks to its dual voice coil, its usable excursion and its compatibility with sealed as well as ported loads, the SD315A-88 is suitable for building economical enclosures, dedicated bass systems or for replacing a subwoofer speaker in an existing installation.
