The UP Play Max from iFi Audio is a compact Bluetooth transmitter designed to connect a smartphone or computer to wireless headphones or earphones. By supporting several codecs, including aptX Lossless, it can transmit music up to CD quality when the paired devices are compatible with this format. Its small size allows it to be integrated into a mobile or desktop setup without requiring any particular installation.
On iPhone, the UP Play Max adds aptX Lossless compatibility, which is absent from the AAC Bluetooth transmission usually used by these devices. This link allows lossless transmission with compatible services and files, provided the Bluetooth headphones also support the codec. On Android, the variety of codecs offered by different brands can complicate pairing between the source and the headphones; the UP Play Max brings several high-resolution formats together in a single transmitter, expanding connection options.

The K2 technology built into the UP Play Max acts on the reproduction of digital content to reintroduce harmonics and high frequencies that processing may have attenuated. Enabled from the iFi Nexis app, it applies to wirelessly transmitted music and aims to bring its tonal balance closer to that of the original master. It thus allows processing to be adapted to listening, whether files come from a digital library or a streaming service.
Auracast compatibility turns the UP Play Max into a Bluetooth transmitter to which several compatible devices can connect. Listeners can join or leave the broadcast without individual pairing or password, making it easier to share music or video content in a shared space. For headphones without Auracast, the transmitter can also connect simultaneously to two pairs of earphones or headphones in SBC, to share listening from the same source.

Bluetooth can introduce a delay between picture and sound, noticeable when watching videos or gaming. The UP Play Max features a low latency mode associated with the aptX Adaptive codec; it is enabled from iFi Nexis, subject to compatibility with the headphones used. This function aims to tighten audiovisual synchronization so that dialogue, sound effects and on-screen action are more consistent.
A microphone located at the base of the UP Play Max allows you to take calls or join in-game conversations without removing the device. Qualcomm noise and echo reduction processing helps limit unwanted sounds picked up during the conversation, making communication easier on the move or in a busy environment.

The iFi Nexis app provides access to settings that extend the transmitter's functions: management of paired devices, display of the active codec, activation of K2 Technology, Auracast or low latency mode. It also allows OTA updates to be installed, keeping the UP Play Max up to date and centralizing control of its main functions from a mobile device.
