The Fosi Audio MD3 MagDac is a compact portable magnetic DAC based on the use of an ESS ES9039Q2M DAC chip and no fewer than 4 ES9603Q headphone amplifier chips in a balanced configuration. Compatible with USB Audio Class UAC 2.0 and UAC 1.0, it supports up to PCM 32bit 384kHz as well as native DSD256 in UAC 2.0 mode, and up to PCM 16bit 48kHz in UAC 1.0. It features two headphone outputs, a 3.5mm single-ended jack and a 4.4mm balanced jack, with an output power of ≥ 2x80mW under 32Ω in 3.5mm and ≥ 2x180mW under 32Ω in 4.4mm. Its stated performance includes a frequency response of 20Hz to 48kHz (±0.2dB), a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 116dB, a dynamic range of up to 116dB, THD+N of ≤0.00075% in 3.5mm and ≤0.00084% in 4.4mm, as well as a noise floor below 1.7µV in single-ended mode and 2.7µV in balanced mode. It is compatible with headphones and earphones from 16 to 300Ω. Its dual USB-C connectivity allows audio, image/data transfer, firmware updates, and smartphone charging during use.
